Quentin Tarantino is arguably the best film-maker of his generation. His ability and passion to tell stories through film is second to none. "Kill Bill" bears witness to Tarantino's love of film by referencing a variety of genres such as blacksploitation, marital arts, anime, spaghetti westerns, and superhero movies. Some might find it easy to dismiss him as merely a movie fan who makes movies about other movies. I argue that he's far more creative than that. He draws upon these genres for inspiration and creates stories that are fresh, intelligently written, and compelling to watch. For example, in the third act of volume 2, Bill, played by the late David Carradine, shoots [Uma Thurman's character] with a dart filled with truth serum forcing her to answer his many questions. While waiting for the serum to take effect, Bill monologues about his fascination with comic books and, in particular, superhero mythology. "The point emerges" as Bill compares [Uma Thurman's character's]...

An excellent blu-ray transfer for an awesome movie. The picture quality is one of the best video transfers on blu-ray and the audio is equally pleasing. Its a must own in the collection of best blu-ray titles. Not much on the extras side, but the Movie itself is worth it.

Review :
Pure fantasy and an opportunity missed
I was very reluctant to give the makers of this movie my money because I was pretty sure from the previews what it would be. I figured I would bite the bullet and do it so I could have some credibility in my review.

First of all, I work in the RPA (aka drone) community at the very base this fantasy is based on. The movie actually did not start out bad, much of it was accurate (the ground station setup, actually having an intel guy there, etc) except for a few silly cliches such as the commander having to use the "f" word in every sentence. Then the CIA took over, here is where the movie turned into complete fantasy and telling people what they want to hear rather than the truth. It is sad because this was an opportunity lost. PTSD in "drone" crews is a real thing, there is something psycho in overwatching a warzone for 8 hours then going home to your family. This movie became less about that and more about telling how evil the missions are.

Plain Good

This is a good movie if your looking for a drama/ some action where the character development is done to where you identify with the moral and personal struggles of the character. Provides insight loosely to the military and its use of drones against terrorism.

Pros: Character development, Ethan Hawke's performance, story in regards to the theme it aims to portray
Cons: Can be slow at times and loosely based on a true story

One of the best and most realistic war movies I have seen. More like Platoon than American Sniper. I really liked this one.
"I had information that the Taliban commander's brother would attend the funeral. So I waited until they were all there, saying their prayers... and then I blew them up too. That's my job." Thomas Egan (Hawke) is a major in the US Airforce who is trying to adjust to the modern "flying", piloting drones. He spends his days bombing and surveying damage 7000 miles away and his nights trying to reconcile what he as done. His life causes strain on his marriage and overall well being. This is a very interesting movie. It deals with something I never really thought of before, drone pilots can get PTSD too. This is not a happy movie at all, but it is a very realistic movie. Half of the movie shows how the pilots feels about piloting drones and the aftermath of their consequences. The other half is about the commanders and how they feel about the effectiveness and usefulness of them. Both sides make convincing arguments and that keeps you interested, invested and involved in...

This Blu-Ray disc has issues; the release has been postponed from 7/29/15 to 9/8/15. There's an exchange program being put into place for those who wind up with this version. What's wrong with it? Vertical stretching that makes everyone look taller and thinner than they should. The colors are also a little more green. Criterion have stated that they will indicate which version is the corrected one by printing ‘Second Printing' on the back of the cover packaging.

An American classic classically rended in DVD
The film, truly an American classic and, for my money, one of the 10 best American films ever made, is splendidly rendered here with a mint-condition print. The DVD also offers a superb mix of additional features, most especially the remarkable documentary on the film, "Fearful Symmetry," by Charles Kiselyak, and compelling yet unassuming commentary by the director, Robert Mulligan, and the producer, the late Alan J. Pakula.
Besides interviews with Mulligan and Pakula, the documentary includes interviews with the actors who play the children, Mary Badham as Scout and Phillip Alford as Jem, as well as with the screen writer, Horton Foote, and the composer, Elmer Bernstein. The documentary also includes interviews with several residents of Monroeville, Ala., the real Macon, to round out a sense of "Macon" then and now.

Exceptional extra feature documentary...
Like so many teachers, I've used the VHS version of "To Kill A Mockingbird" to teach the Elements of Literature to high school students.
Today, the internet has a wealth of resources to assist teachers and students using this classic adaptation of Harper Lee's novel. The documentary, "Fearful Symmetry" produced in 1998 to be included on this DVD Collector's Edition, is great resource for teachers, students and all those who love and have been touched by "Mockingbird."
The 130 minute documentary, written and directed Charles Kiselyak, both discusses how the film was made and it's general literary elements. The film is one of the most effectively edited documentaries I have seen, linking key scenes from "Mockingbird" with talking heads, still photos and black and white film taken in various localities across the south.

Loving Treatment of A True American Classic
Everyone who has ever taken high school English classes will no doubt be familiar with Harper Lee's time honored story. As is mentioned in the accompanying DVD, Fearfull Symmetry, it is second only to the Bible in the hearts and minds of U.S. readers. This is probably also the most often-shown film in said classrooms. No need to reshash the story-line, then.
This DVD set offers an excellent transfer of the famed black and white cinematography of the prolific Russel Harlan. It's a real treat to hear from so many of the people who were involved in the production, from the producer, Alan J. Pakula, to the now grown actors who played Scout and Jim. The audience gains great insights into what made this film so special, not only to the legions of its admiring fans, but to everyone involved in creating it.
