A helicopter pilot (Gyllenhaal) recruited for a top-secret military operation finds himself on a startlingly different kind of mission in Source Code, a smart, fast-paced action thriller that challenges our assumptions about time and space. Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is directed by Duncan Jones (Moon).

Review :
"Quantum Leap", meet "Groundhog Day"
Source Code is a suspenseful, surprisingly intelligent, occasionally touching, movie that's far better than I'd expected it to be. With tight pacing, great editing, good acting and fine directing by Duncan Jones, best known for Moon, it's a very good sci-fi action film released outside the usual summertime area for such movies.

The film tells the tale of a man (Jake Gyllenhall), who wakes up on a train. He has no idea why he's there or who the woman across from him is. As he's trying to get things sorted out, an explosion goes off, killing everyone. He then comes to inside a capsule where it's explained to him that the train was blown up in a terrorist bombing. The terrorist was kind enough to do a practice run and apparently plans to detonate a dirty bomb in Chicago. Due to some sort of "quantum" effect he can "leap" into the body of a man who died on the train and live out his last eight minutes of life. Doing that will, with luck, enable him to find the bomber...
A Stylish, Well Crafted Thriller
SOURCE CODE has an element that is lacking in too many of the Hollywood CGI sci-fi experimental movies that are so very cloned these day - humanity. Much of the credit for this quality comes from the intelligent and imaginative writing of Ben Ripley and the tight direction by Duncan Jones, but the main reason this film works so well is the presence of charismatic and fine acting by Jake Gyllenhaal.

The story borders on the obtuse: a device has been invented by Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright) that can maintain a person in a state of recall much the way a light bulb has a glow after it has been extinguished. Rutledge has placed helicopter pilot Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal), who is missing in action in Afghanistan, in a capsule that is capable, under the direction of military officer Goodwin (Vera Farmiga), of projecting Stevens onto a train entering Chicago that has been planted with a bomb in order to discover the perpetrator who is apparently planning another bomb that...
Source Code Review
Source Code is an exhilarating movie. It is fast paced, without losing a deep story and emotional connection. The movie puts it's main character in a tense scene, having to find a person who is about to blow up a train. It throws the character(played by Jake Gyllenhaal very well) back into this scene over and over again, with small conversations in between.

The story is complex and emotional. It lets Jake's character expand and deepen, and the supporting cast is great. The special effects are well done, and the whole tone keeps you on the edge of your seat. Surprisingly, there is no campy dialogue (something I was expecting from the previews) and it is actually a superb script, making conversations interesting, and later scenes racked with emotion.

The whole movies is very great, leaving you excited by its presentation and quality in every aspect in it. The idea to replay a scene over and over again is executed really well, and makes the film very exciting. It is...

An alien takes on the form of a beautiful young woman and searches the streets of Scotland for men to seduce.

Features :

Review :
Disturbing, Haunting and Poignant
I'd heard various reactions to this film before watching it, some very positive, some negative, both commenting on how confusing and strange it was. David Lynch's 'Eraserhead' was the most popular comparison. While I think any attempts at comparison are going to fall well short of the mark, I'll say that 'Under the Skin' is a slow-burning SF-Horror film that's closer to Kubrick's meditative pace on '2001', with the realistic, semi-improvised dialogue of Gus Van Sant's 'Elephant' and 'Gerry'.

**SPOILERS**
Scarlett Johanssen plays one of two aliens who has taken human form. Just how alien they are cannot be fully appreciated until the second or third 'seduction'. After picking up a stranger in her non-descript van, she brings him to a dilapidated rural house. Leading her would-be suitor into utter blackness, she leaves a trail of clothes behind as she undresses; the unfortunate victim stumbles forward, oblivious to the impossible metamorphosis of the floor beneath his...
A disturbing, frightening, beautiful, mesmerizing, thoughtful and ultimately polarizing film experience.
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first: Yes, Scarlett Johansson is nude in this film. She is fully frontal nude. Ok, post-pubescent testosterone-driven audiences, go on the internet and find screen caps and then go see TRANSFORMERS for a fifth time, because if that's why you're watching this film, you're going to be one of the haters.

However, if you're in the mood to see a proto-sci-fi film about the allegorical birth, life and death of an unearthly being in a very Kubrickian fashion, UNDER THE SKIN should be a perfect fit for you.

As directed by Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) the film follows our protagonist, as played by Johansson, as she travels around the Scottish countryside in a white van to seduce men and abduct them for what seem to be extremely nefarious and alien reasons. Almost all of the seduction scenes are set against a completely black backdrop as the men sink into a black abyss all while she's protected and guided by a...
You'll either like it or walk out 20 minutes into it.
First off, if you like how Michael Bay will have a character yell "Something exploded!" after something explodes because, y'know, you need that kind of exposition, you will not like this movie. There's hardly any dialog and very little plot and almost no "action." Second, if you've read the book, you will also probably not like the movie because it isn't a book. It's an adaptation, and a really loose one at that. The focus is on the imagery and eerie soundtrack to evoke an alien sent to Earth to hunt humans for meat that's sent back to her home planet. The subtexts about class inequality and sexual politics aren't there, so don't bother complaining about how this apple isn't an orange. So if you're looking for a narrative with a clear arc and plot points and resolution, or a shot-for-shot remake of the book, yeah, you're gonna hate this. But if you're into artsy, ambiguous European movies with beautiful cinematography and evocative soundtracks and nudity, you might have a good time...

This specific obcject delivers surpass the prospect, this one has become a fantastic replace on me personally, The thought appeared correctly and quickly Red 2

Retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. A very safe sequel bet with a cast of friendly, recognizable, and bankable stars, RED 2 is a breezy romp of global espionage and superhero superspies where the wealth of violence is played for laughs and the sly grins stay firmly planted on the faces of everyone involved. As fans of 2010's RED will fondly remember, the hero characters are from the AARP generation, which is also what drives the primary conceptual joke and defines the title acronym: Retired, Extremely Dangerous. In round two, former secret agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is drawn out of retirement (again) by his former cohort Marvin (John Malkovich, acting Malkovich-crazy and loving it) to service a plot that involves a Cold War-era nuclear bomb hidden in Russia and the international effort to retrieve it. Frank is now romantically partnered with RED's sweet Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker, also a comic delight), who wants to follow him into the fray and turns out to be pretty good at the dangerous game of spycraft. Also returning from not really being retired are the icy MI-6 assassin Victoria (Helen Mirren) and the lusty Russian spy chief Ivan (Brian Cox). Their priceless scene together captures a bucolic picnic where automatic weapons and silk stockings are the main course. New to this edition is Katja (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Ivan's best operative and a former flame of Frank, and Han Cho Bai (Byung-hun Lee), a Korean hit man on Frank's list partly because he's been ordered to kill him, but mostly because he's mad that Frank stole his private jet. Everyone's motives are purposely muddled, but they all put aside personal grudges and professional kill orders to join forces against the doomsday device. It was created and hidden by a batty professor who's been locked away in a London psychiatric hospital for almost 40 years. Fortunately this caricature is played by Anthony Hopkins, who brings all the acting tics and crazy-old-British-guy mannerisms he can as both hero and villain. The mechanics of story don't much matter when the purpose is zingy one-liners and the comic timing is spot on. There's a ton of bloodless violence--most of which is also played for laughs--and a menacing American agent played by Neal McDonough who seems to be the only humorless one in the whole bunch. He's also the only truly scary one, which does not bode well for his character. All the leads are given their own scene-stealing moments, with each playing according to their strengths (and probably for a nice "what the heck?" paycheck). The physical and verbal interplay among them cascades trippingly off the tongue in snappy dialogue and bits of business that seem effortless for these pros. Helen Mirren wears diamonds and fur while wielding a grenade launcher; John Malkovich makes the most lovable psychopath ever; Anthony Hopkins is both befuddled and conniving; and Bruce Willis makes violent screwball comedy look easy, especially with the impeccable help of Mary-Louise Parker. The RED franchise is a nice crossover success for Hollywood, with a built-in audience of the over-50 set, and the core youth demographic happy to watch grandma- and grandpa-types blow up and shoot things to their hearts' content. --Ted Fry

Our Favorite Foursome
Here they are again, our favorite former black-ops CIA agents, still Retired and Extremely Dangerous, who must reunite and track down a portable nuclear device, invented by a man who has been held for over 30 years in an institution for the criminally insane.

If you saw the original "Red" you know that after all the wild events, Frank and Sarah became a couple. Now we get to see what happens AFTER the "happily ever after...." (It's hilarious!)

We see:
* Bruce Willis ("Red") Frank is in a domestic frenzy, deliriously heaping his shopping cart at Costco with countless household items.
* John Malkovich ("Red") Marvin is horrified to see Frank in this condition. He will do anything...
* Mary-Louise Parker ("Red") Sarah has an edge over Frank and Marvin: people LIKE her, but she can only watch Frank's new-found domesticity with a mixture of dismay and affection.
* Helen Mirren ("Red") Victoria is in the middle of another "side job" when...
RED 2 -- You Gotta See This
I loved this film. Yes the plot is so thin as to almost be transparent. Yes it is filled with car crashes, car chases, and the most heavily armed but incompetent adversaries on film. But the CAST -- and the ACTION -- make this into an exciting romp by some very talented actors. It is hard to overshadow Bruce Willis in any film but this cast manages that. John Malkovich steals the show as "Mad" Marvin and does as much acting with his face as with the dialog. Helen Mirren is clearly having the time of her life playing Victoria and she is great. Anthony Hopkins as the mad scientist plays it to the hilt. Byung-hun Lee as the assassin hired to kill Willis is marvelous in his incredible fight scenes plus adding some real subdued humor about his plane. Also he introduces the new Gatling gun just released by the Army and that scene alone is worth the price of admission. Oh yes -- Bruce Willis was in this film -- and yes he does a good job but it is hard to surpass this team of actors...
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE KREMLIN, STAYS IN THE KREMLIN
The film incorporates Wikileaks as the new problem child for Moses Frank (Bruce Willis) and company. An article claims he and Marvin (John Malkovich) were involved in a 1979 operation called "Night Shade." They have become wanted men.

In an expanded role Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) our meek lady from Kansas has become a thrill seeker and joins the group as they travel the world to find "Night Shade." In addition to Interpol and the Feds looking for our heroes, there is also a hitman (Byung-hun Lee) after them and Victoria (Helen Mirren) is also contracted to kill them...Malkovich proclaims "Friends don't take out a contract on friends." They are allied by KGB agent Katja (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to the displeasure of sweet innocent Sarah who says..."Can't we just kill her?"

The film is filled with Malkovich one liners which we enjoyed in the first movie. The expanded role of Sarah added to the feature. This is perhaps a notch below the first installment, but a...

A DISGRACED MEMBER OF THE MILITARY POLICE INVESTIGATES A SERIES OF NASTY CHILD MURDERS DURING THE STALIN-ERA SOVIET UNION.

Review :
Not What You Think It Is....
I'm an old, harden guy. Nothing bothers me anymore. For me, the more intense the better. When I watched this film, I was thinking it was a rip off of HBO's Citizen's X. Let me just say that the end of the movie had me crying like a baby. I really wasn't ready for that. Advice? Watch Citizen X first...get an idea about the history. Then watch this one. So well done...so well acted...and the end will leave tears in your eyes.

CHILD 44 is a chilling story about a child killer on the loose in Russia in the 50's.
Excellent film about a child killer on the loose in Russia. The actors were brilliant, the cinematography dark and foreboding as the plot of the story and the writing superior, as well. I would recommend CHILD 44 to anyone, especially those with an interest in crime stories; fiction and non-fiction, as an earlier movie that also took place in Russia about another serial killer named Andre Chikitillo who killed over 50 people during the 80's and 90's, called CITIZEN X.
I didn't really know what to expect when I ordered this movie, but I'm now very glad that I did because it was an excellent film.

Parts Better Than the Whole
Based on Tom Rob Smith’s 2008 novel of the same title, “Child 44” follows the story of Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), a dutiful MGB (Ministry for State Security) officer and his wife Raisa Demidova (Noomi Rapace) under Stalin’s rule. Leo’s faith to the nation is severely tested when the mutilated body of the son of Leo’s old friend is found. Because “there is no murder in paradise,” however, the case is hushed up.

Later on, Leo, disgraced and sidelined, starts investigating the case that could be done by a serial killer. General Nesterov (Gary Oldman) is helpful, but Leo has to be very careful because in uncovering the truths he has to deal with not only the murderer, but the Soviet bureaucracy represented by a sneaky officer Vasili Nikitin (Joel Kinnaman). Paddy Considine, Jason Clarke, and Vincent Cassel also appear.

Written by Richard Price (“The Color of Money” “Sea of Love”), the script of...

Review :
Genius, Thought-Provoking, Forget about "Sherlock".
The casting is on point, each actor-- including the extras-- excels at portraying their character in a realistic manner. Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal Lecter) vs. Hugh Dancy (Will Graham)? The most promising and exciting game of Cat and Mouse on TV I've ever seen. "Sherlock" is a wonderful show, but where Sherlock and Moriarty's genius is practically shouted about at the audience through a megaphone, the "Hannibal" audience will experience Lecter and Graham's. Hugh Dancy deserves an Emmy for his superior execution of Will's mentally tortured, neurotic, unconventional hero persona.
The cinematography is not flashy, it's elegant, beautiful, seamless. It's not "Saw" or "Hostel" mindless gore, it's a Francis Bacon oil painting, structurally wild, disturbing and intriguing to study. Discussable, not disgusting.
The writing isn't predictable, isn't corny, isn't unnecessarily drawn-out to see how many season's they can squeeze out of Thomas Harris's...
Being one of the greatest shows currently on TV, this is HANNIBAL's design.
Having a conversation about Bryan Fuller's exquisite television adaptation of HANNIBAL, it became clear that this was one of the only occasions we could think of where two separate performers had taken the same character and created iconic performances of that character. Anthony Hopkins has the scenery-chewing in the films, and Mads Mikkelsen has his restrained, thoughful work on this show. And while the first season was gorgeous in its gore, amazing in its talent, superb in its writing, there was a restraint there because who could have thought that a show this mature and disturbing and intelligent would get a second season? Once they did, though, they must have thought there wouldn't be a third season, because they went for broke in this season, and it's breathtaking.

The season opens with its most bravura mission statement yet: A fight, possibly to the death, between Lecter and Jack Crawford (still amazingly portrayed by Laurence Fishburne), signifying that Jack finally...
Doesn't Miss a Beat
Season 2 begins with an exciting sort of preview of an eventual climactic battle then proceeds to pick right back up where season 1 left off.

If you're unfamiliar with "Hannibal" it's easily one of the more remarkable series currently around and has the distinction of being the only, domestically produced crime drama that rivals BBC's iconic "Sherlock" for sheer sophistication both intellectually and aesthetically. British actor Hugh Dancy (special agent Will Graham) possesses a presence and intensity that could easily carry a series on his own however the addition of Laurence Fishburne and Mads Mikkelsen dials up the dramatic intensity three-fold. I watch lots of scary movies (probably too much) and this little show from NBC is so adept at maintaining a prevailing atmosphere of dread combined with an added element of suspense, punctuated by moments of full-on lurid horror that it always leaves me a little shaken after each episode. Many have remarked on the exceptional...

Review :
Scared the crap out of me
Horror movies these days don't really scare people. The only horror movie to really creep someone out more recently is the
first Paranormal Activity. But that's now been done to death. All horror movies now a days are either remakes or go for shock and become what is the newer term, "torture porn", until now. Sinister came along just in time for all of us to get our
Halloween chills and scared the crap out of America. I have seen a lot of horror. I even go for those really bad SyFy B-rated
ones for laughs. The newer horror doesn't scare because it's predictable and instead it disgusts me. The over use of torture and gore that have nothing to do with the plot. Sinister however does something different. Ethan Hawke plays the character of a true crime writer desperate to live his glory days, almost at the cost of his family. And he plays it well. The violence that actually has to do with the plot was creatively filmed. And because the story was unique and not a rehash,...
Best Horror To Come To The Theater In Years!!!
This movie I have to say, is one of the best horror film's I have seen in theaters since "Orphan" (2009). I don't get scared easily and the movie brought chills down my spine!!! The dialogue in the film was good, the acting was much better than expected (I am a huge fan of Ethan Hawk from Day Breakers, the cinematography was perfect, the story definitely carried out smoothly, and the idea behind the movie and having a descent original supernatural climax was really what kept this movie on the edge of your seat! A lot of horror films in the past that are about supernatural things but end up having a human climax is disappointing to me in most movies (cry wolf, sorority row, etc). The ending really caught me off guard, and ended in a way that makes u feel cold and creeped out. This movie makes you think. I don't know how anyone wouldn't find this film creepy, or sick to say the least and if you don't think so then something is seriously wrong with you. Amazing film! Wish there was an...
'Sinister' delivers the chills
Director Scott Derrickson's latest entry into the horror genre, the aptly titled `Sinister', is an instant classic.

Egomaniacal true-crime novelist, Ellison Oswalt, moves his wife and two kids into the house where an unsettling murder involving a family of five has recently taken place. He plans to write about the incident and the missing child, who was apparently spared and kidnapped by the killer, hoping that he can solve the mystery without the help of the local authorities.

As he stores boxes in the attic, he finds several reels of Super 8 film and a projector. Each film contains increasingly graphic and macabre footage of a family being murdered. Upon further inspection, Ellison discovers that a pale, hollow-eyed figure can be seen lurking in the background in each one of the home movies. A pattern begins to emerge, as Ellison becomes consumed with the dark secrets that lie within the films. Further investigation confirms that there are demonic forces at...

Academy Awardr winner* Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen in this thrilling second adventure from The Hunger Games saga. Against all odds, Katniss and fellow tribute, Peeta, have returned home after surviving the games. Winning means they must turn around, leaving their loved ones behind, and embark on a Victory Tour through the districts. Along the way, Katniss senses a rebellion simmering - one that she and Peeta may have sparked. At the end of the Victory Tour, President Snow announces a deadly 75th Hunger Games (Quarter Quell) that could change Panem forever When it comes to blockbuster franchises, the first sequel frequently offers pumped-up versions of the initial thrills--to diminishing results. Catching Fire, however, the second adaptation drawn from Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy, defies that trend with more finely drawn relationships. With the 74th Games in the history books, Katniss (Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, as comfortable in warrior garb as in designer couture) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson, better than ever) set out on a victory tour across Panem with Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) and Effie (Elizabeth Banks). Despite her best efforts to feign romance with her co-competitor and to keep posttraumatic stress at bay, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) fears that Katniss's defiant nature will incite rebellion, so he takes a tip from new gamemaker Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and launches a Quarter Quell in which past champions, such as the hilariously bitter Johanna (Jena Malone) and the deceptively arrogant Finnick (Sam Claflin), will fight to the death. Not all tributes are quite so young, like Mags (Lynn Cohen), a senior citizen who suits up for battle and establishes a touching bond with Finnick (Jeffrey Wright and Amanda Plummer play the craftiest teammates). Until the cliffhanger ending, director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) serves up an array of splendors, from killer baboons to the ever-amazing outfits of Effie and Caesar (Stanley Tucci). Most significantly, the script from cowriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) strengthens the bonds between Katniss and Peeta and Gale (Liam Hemsworth), who prove themselves more worthy than ever of Katniss's affections. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Review :
An Incredibly Faithful, Mind-blowing Adaptation
Wow. Just, wow. I went to see Catching Fire last night after a year and a half long wait and I can honestly say, it was 100% worth it. Please go see this movie. You will not be disappointed. The director, Francis Lawrence, did a fantastic job expanding the world of Panem while keeping true to the tone set by the first movie. The first half of the movie, the victory tour and events leading up to the Quarter Quell, may feel a little bit rushed, but all the important details are there. The arena is colossal, so much better on screen than in my mind. The music, which I paid particular attention to since I loved the first film's score, was moving and fit perfectly in every scene. For book fans, there are a few minor details left out, but the amount of content taken directly from the book is amazing. Much of the dialogue (although not all) is taken straight from the book, word-for-word. This was probably my favorite part of the whole movie. And I need not add that the casting was phenomenal...
'Catching Fire' amongst the greatest sequels in film history
After more than a year and a half, the seemingly endless wait has finally come to an end. The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, is here. If anticipation could literally kill people, this film would have whipped out tens of millions - not dissimilar from a Harry Potter or Twilight sequel. Regardless, the difference between The Hunger Games and Harry Potter or Twilight is the target audience of The Hunger Games is limitless. While the first film nearly broke the $700 million barrier worldwide, this franchise has picked up so much momentum that there shouldn't be any stopping it, right? Well, it's not like we aren't all aware of the dreaded "curse of the sequel," but rest assured Hunger Games fans - there's nothing to fear here.

The Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, steps aside for the sequel as the reigns fall on the shoulders of highly-acclaimed music video and occasional film director, Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend). Catching Fire, based on the...
"Remember who the enemy is."
Nothing could have prepared me for Catching Fire; it was, quite simply, an astonishment on every level. It is so much more than just an action movie; it is also a thought-provoking look at hope, revolution, rebellion, and the importance of government. It's themes encompass grand ideas and touchy subjects with utter fearlessness.

Let us examine what sets The Hunger Games: Catching Fire a cut above the rest:

1. CAST: Surrounding the amazing Jennifer Lawrence (who has matured into a riveting young actress) is a supporting cast to die for. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth give good roles, but it is the incomparable Donald Sutherland, who oozes quiet menace from every pore, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who chews the scenery with a subtle performance, and the amazing Jeffrey Wright who truly astonish. Look also for Jena Malone as Johanna Mason in a brilliant, scene-stealing performance of incredible charisma.

2. CINEMATOGRAPHY: Filled with gorgeous and...

A cultured, sleazy revenge flick
Nine Things About the Movie "John Wick" (USA, 2014)

1. This is probably the best action movie of 2014. It's certainly the movie with the highest body count of 2014.

2. It's directed by two guys who, before they made this movie together, were mostly stunt coordinators and stunt doubles for people like Brad Pitt, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Keanu Reeves.

3. Speaking of Keanu Reeves, he's great in this. You see, there is a very specific type of movie in which Keanu excels - action flicks where he moves around a lot and hardly talks. This had to be his dream role.

4. Reeves plays John Wick, a depressed nobody dealing with the loss of his wife. When a few things go wrong, we find out that John isn't exactly a nobody. In fact, he has quite a reputation as an assassin for the Russian mafia.

5. What's fascinating about this film is that this is no street-level gang war stuff. These are all super rich, civilized professionals that move in...
Revenge.....
This movie was OUTSTANDING! Although the very beginning was emotionally draining, it was an awesome movie. So well done...so well choreographed that Keanu Reeves' fighting scenes flowed like artwork. If you saw the promo, you already know that John Wick is/was a real tough guy. (He actually gave up the hard life and settled down.) When his wife died, he was devistated, until a package was delivered. She had ordered him a puppy to ease his pain after she passed on. Shortly after, some bad guys from a Russian mob broke into his place, beat the heck out of him, and killed the dog. Again, all this was in the promo, and in the very beginning of the movie.

To say he was upset, would be a severe understantement. Of course, he goes after these guys bent on revenge. It is a very intense and very violent movie, but DARN it was good! My son saw a special, explaining that Keanu learned his moves for "The Matrix". Keanu was in his prime. I definitely plan on buying...
A Great Movie and "yeah, I'm thinking that Keanue Reeves is back."
This was an awesome non-stop, action packed movie from beginning to end. One of the more memorable lines says it all, "John Wick is the guy you send to take out the boogeyman." It is very clear that John Wick does not take any sh#%. Also, I couldn't help but notice a number of cast members from some of the HBO Original Series (i.e. The Wire and Oz) such as Lance Reddick, Clarke Peters, and Dean Winters. Saving the best for last, Keanue Reeves was awesome as John Wick. I was already impressed with his role in "47 Ronin." However, Keanue Reeves gave such a great performance as John Wick that I am already looking forward to a sequel and possibly a prequel (i.e. life before wife). This was such a great movie that "yeah, I'm thinking that Keanue Reeves is back."

One choice can transform you-or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love. Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable--and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships. Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

Review :
3 1/2 stars for a good sequel and a fun trip
Theatrical review. Could be a spoiler. This is the second of the "Divergent" series and is a proper continuation from the 2014 original. Shailene Woodley returns as the protagonist Tris, who surprisingly joined the Dauntless tribe in the last film. She struggled with her acclimation in that section of the story, but here she's tough as nails. Her cohort and boyfriend Four (Theo James), lead a small band of fugitives that are being blamed for the massacre of the Abnegation (including Tris's parents) but who in fact were wiped out by the Erudite led by Jeanine (Kate Winslet) who survives the last film.

In an early scene we see the fugitives in a not-too-subtle portrait with Woodley surrounded by 3 of her on-screen boyfriends (James, Ansel Elgort from "The Fault in Our Stars" and Miles Teller from "The Spectacular Now"). I expect that poster will soon find its way into many a teen's hands. If you haven't seen the first film you will be at a bit...
Insurgent quick movie review
What’s it about?

Part two in the Divergent trilogy sees our heroes, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) attempt to uncover the truth about their society’s rigid faction system and bring down its Machiavellian government.

What did I think?

Insurgent begins where Divergent left off – a little disorientating for those unfamiliar with the first installment or novels. For a dystopian teen drama, it’s a pretty bleak look at the lengths some will go to for power and pulls no punches when it comes to violence and death. The strong cast does their best with the at-times mediocre dialogue. The story moves along at a reasonable pace, spurred on by some decent edge-of-your-seat action sequences. An improvement on its predecessor, Insurgent builds to a satisfying climax while effectively setting up the final installment in the trilogy. Fans of the books and the first film will enjoy.

Some Pretty Amazing Special Effects! Insurgent Is a Worthy Sequel!
Insurgent is an action fueled joyride! Sure, Divergent did not receive the best of reviews. But really, it seemed like the biggest complaints had more to do with the comparisons to Hunger Games franchise instead of its merit as a decent Scifi/Romance. I actually read the book, and felt like Divergent had done a decent job of sticking to the narrative found therein. Insurgent is no different. If you liked the book, you won’t find much to complain about here.

Our main heroine is back with the love of her live (Four). This time she has the love of her life from the Fault In Our Stars, and the love of her life from The Spectacular Now to tag along on the adventure. For the most part this works. Miles teller is particularly funny in his comic relief role here similar to the skeptical ways of an early Harrison Ford in Star Wars.

Most of the plot in this movie is moving from destination to destination seeking refuge and gaining followers for the...

A rambunctious group of five college friends steal away for a weekend of debauchery in an isolated country cabin, only to be attacked by horrific supernatural creatures in a night of endless terror and bloodshed. Sound familiar? Just wait. As the teens begin to exhibit standard horror movie behavior, a group of technicians in a control room are scrutinizing, and sometimes even controlling, every move the terrified kids make! With their efforts continually thwarted by the all powerful eye in the sky, do they have any chance of escape? An affectionate, extremely knowing spoof that also manages to be a full-blooded, rip-snorting scary movie, this Joss Whedon production should have horror fans levitating off of their seats with bliss. Kicking off with the best title card of the year, the film follows a standard assortment of college kids (jock, stoner, cheerleader, bookish Final Girl, etc.) as they head to the creepy, cobwebby location of the title. Meanwhile, a pair of blasƩ white-collar drones (the wonderful Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford) trudge through what appears to be just another day in the office. These plotlines are not altogether unrelated. Those averse to spoilers can be forgiven for applying earmuffs from here on out, but one of the beauties of Whedon and Drew Goddard's script is how it manages to continually up the ante, revealing the basics of its plot in the very first scene and then proceeding to run amuck within the boundaries it so gleefully establishes. (If you think you've got it figured out, just wait five minutes.) Although scoring major points for ambition, debuting director Goddard does occasionally struggle with the film's swings between laughs and screams, with a couple of promisingly scary scenes blunted by badly cued punch lines. In addition, as with many Whedon projects, some viewers may find this teetering on the edge of glibness, with every character sporting a full arsenal of almost too-clever wisecracks at the ready. Any such nitpicking, however, should be obliterated by Cabin's completely hellzapoppin' final act, which mashes-up seemingly every supernatural trope in existence into a coherent, outrageously plasma-soaked validation of the genre. In conclusion, if you have any interest in horror movies at all, you gotta see this. --Andrew Wright

Review :
"I just think it would've been cooler with a merman."
If you read my Juan of the Dead review, then you probably not only have an idea of how much I love horror films but also how much I thrive for originality and creativity in the genre. Something unique is so hard to come by anymore. It's as if Hollywood is afraid of taking risks. They'd rather remake something well-known to try and capitalize on a well-known name or franchise than go forward with something completely fresh and new because it might bomb. It makes sense on one hand, but for somebody who sees one hundred films a year or more it becomes kind of tiresome. You begin to make the most with what you have in front of you. If only a horror film could come along and be clever, original, pay homage, and offer something new for horror. That's exactly what you get with The Cabin in the Woods.

Curt (Chris Hemsworth) plans on taking his girlfriend Jules (Anna Hutchison) and his friends to his cousin's cabin. There's the new recruit to the football team Holden (Jesse...
Reinvention
In the world of filmmaking, genres must occasionally be reinvented; otherwise they become predictable and stale. In the late 90's, West Craven reinvigorated the horror genre with "Scream," by combining sly self-awareness and humor with genuine scares. Not since "Scream" has a mainstream film come along and reinvented the horror genre like "The Cabin in the Woods".

The film begins with two opposing and intertwined storylines. One is the oldest cliché in the world - 5 attractive college students decide to head off to a cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun, sex, and substance abuse. It's a surprise to no one that terror, bloodletting, and death await them. But there's another storyline happening; where a group of corporate drones are watching the youngsters on TV screens, anticipating their actions as if they're producers making a reality show. If that were the case, then the film would hardly be fresh and original. Tying reality TV to horror has been done many times...
Turning Horror Movie Cliches Into A Twisty Post-Modern Game: Beware Of Spoilers And Enjoy
With geek god Joss Whedon (creator of TV's Buffy and Firefly among other fan favorites) on board, it's fair to say that the expectations for "The Cabin in the Woods" were quite high for enthusiasts of the horror genre. Here he shares a writing credit with the film's director Drew Goddard and the result is one of the year's more entertaining experiments. I truly think that this is a film that will suffer due to those that are willing to discuss too many of the plot points in advance, so I'll be brief in my actual descriptions. I will say this, though, the less you know about the movie--the more fun you can have. In my opinion, even the advertising campaign and trailers hint at too much. You know from the start that this isn't your typical fright fest. Instead, what is served plays up and skewers every horror movie cliche imaginable. It is both hip and witty, as well as smarter than it has any right to be. It twists movie conventions around in clever new ways and makes something that...

Better than Numbers Ahoy!
My daughter learned all her letters and sounds at 19 months watching Letter Factory once a day for 3 weeks so I was interested in getting her a number video. I rented Numbers Ahoy to see what I thought since it had mixed reviews. I wasn't impressed as it's mostly about plot and little about counting or numbers but Numberland is much more focused on numbers and counting. We've had it less than a week and she's already starting to count things and she's only 20 months old! It's basic only focusing on numbers (1-10), counting, and a little skip counting but simple and focused is what works at a young age. Might not be as helpful for a 3 or 4 year old who can already count. As a bonus there's a vowel song from one of the other Leapfrog videos at the end as an advertisement and my daughter loves the song!

Another great Leapfrog video!
This is a numbers video for ages 2-5 years with the Leapfrog dogs--Scout and Violet! My 2 year old daughter and 4 year old son absolutely love this video. They have watched it a bunch of times now, totally glued. They sing along with it now too. It does a great review of counting to 10, counting by 2's, and counting different objects.

Cute for Kids 2-6
My boys love Leapfrog products and the few letter DVDs we have seen from Leapfrog, so I figured this DVD would be a hit as well. "Numberland" is a DVD that features the fun characters from Leapfrog products, but also numbers 1-10. It is a perfect first counting DVD for kids to learn from and it fits nicely with the other Leapfrog products. Throughout the DVD the numbers 1-10 are repeated and re-arranged over and over, but not in a boring way. The DVD makes kids think too because it puts the numbers in different orders, has them answer which number is missing and so forth. The animation is bright, colorful and kid-friendly. While this DVD is only 35 minutes, my boys don't mind watching it over and over again! The DVD states its for 2-6 year olds, and my boys are 3 and 5 and love it.

Review :
A great emotional lift.
Lasse Hallstrom's film version of the Joanne Harris' novel Chocolat is as delightful a confection as were the heroines' chocolate creations themselves. The plot is intricate and intriguing, carrying the viewer through the emotional transformations of each of the main characters. In a sleepy medieval French town where life has assumed a repressive structure that has created an emotionally frozen and empty life for even the most highly placed members of its society, the heroine Vianne and her daughter arrive to set up a chocolate shop. With her wonderfully concocted sweets she manages to liberate some of the denizens of the town, revealing their potential for greater happiness. The story has a sense of myth, fantasy, and fairytale about it that leaves the viewer with a feeling of personal satisfaction.

This is a film full of strong female performers. Judi Dench is especially wonderful as a curmudgeonly elderly woman estranged from her daughter and forbidden to see her...
Melts in Your Mouth, Not in Your Hand
Joanne Harris, the writer of the novel, Chocolat, is apparently a confectionery genius, for this story leaves a wonderful taste in your mouth. Although I have not read the novel, the movie is delightfully rich and creamy.
Vianne (Juliette Binoche) is a "chocolatier extraordinaire," having the best chocolate in all of France and possibly the entire world. She and daughter, Anouk, set up shop in a small French village rife with religious zealots led by the mayor, Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina), who is intent on keeping the town chocolate-less. It is the timeless game of religious piety versus sincere brotherly love as portrayed in the lead characters.
Vianne seeks to sweeten the lives of the villagers in town with her secret panacea, especially the religious rejects like Armande Voizin (Judi Dench). She is a crusty old woman, the antipathy of her daughter, forbidden to see her own grandson living in town. Moreover, there is an abused wife (Lena Olin), who...
A feel good treat thats better than the book
Last year, I reviewed the book CHOCOLAT by Joanne Harris. I'm happy to report that this film adaptation is even better than the print version. And how often can one say that with a straight face?
The film begins with a north wind blowing Vianne (Juliette Binoche) and her daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol) into a small French village at the very beginning of Lent, that pre-Easter period of time, which, in the Catholic liturgy, is dedicated to prayer and physical self-denial. It's not a good time for Vianne, an apparent non-Christian, to open up a chocolate shop across the town square from the church. But, she does so anyway, much to the dismay of the village mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina). Reynaud is puritanically determined to shut the shop down, and Vianne is equally determined to keep it open. An irresistible force meets an immovable object.
CHOCOLAT, both the book and movie, is a whimsical comedy that blossoms as Lent progresses, and Vianne's shop becomes a...

Review :
The Most Awesome DVD Ever Created. Trash The Old Disk!
This new "Ultimate Edition DVD" of Terminator 2 Judgement Day, one of the biggest box office smashes of all time, is truly The Ultimate Edition. Unless you get this outside of the US (which I did) you have two disks. One disk is the movie (THREE versions of the movie, in fact), and the next disk is all the special features. And it takes DAYS getting through every feature. I mean, three documentary, 8 trailers and TV spots, an entire script, interviews that you can access separately, and 52 chapters of behind the scenes footage, from makeup to visual effects, from editing to restoring deleted scenes. There are so many special features, this is what DVD was made for! You can also look at the original drawings of certain scenes, awesome!!!!
However, I find the real highlight of this disk (or disks) to be the movie itself, I mean WOW!!! You get three, I repeat, three, versions of the movie. One is the original theatrical version, featuring no cut out scenes (the worst), the...
Technical issue with Blu-Ray Disc - A Theory
This review is not about the movie itself or the special features on the blu-ray disc - there are many other reviwes who already covered that part. For that I gave the movie the rating of 5 stars.

This review is about technical issues some users and reviewers seem to have (which included myself)

I think I figured out what the issue with the disc not playing on certain blu-ray disc players is - here we go:

First let me explain that several movie companies (Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, ... etc.) at times offer a feature on their blu-ray discs which is called "BD Live".
BD Live is a special feature which offers additional online content, accessible from the Internet through your Blu-Ray Disc Player.
Usually this feature is optional and you can access it through the Special Features section on the disc or it has its own category on the disc menue.

However it means that your Blue Ray Disc Player needs to be "BD Live ready" to be...
I'll Tell You How to Get A Different Ending!!!!
OK If you go to the menu, where it will say "Play Theatrical Version" and "Play Special Edition", using your remote control, type in (you may have to press enter in-between each number) 82997 (that's EIGHT TWO NINE NINE SEVEN). Then the "Play Special Edition" option will change to "Play Extended Special Edition" and you get two more added scenes. One where the T-1000 searches John Connor's room, and a different ending set in the future!
Please vote for me if you found my review helpfull (PLEASE!!!)...

A TEENAGE GIRL IN THE MIDWEST BECOMES INFECTED BY AN OUTBREAK OF A DISEASE THAT SLOWLY TURNS THE INFECTED INTO CANNIBALISTIC ZOMBIES. DURING HER TRANSFORMATION, HER LOVING FATHER STAYS BY HER SIDE.

Review :
Surprisingly human zombie drama
"Thoughtful" and "somber" are not words one traditionally uses to describe anything starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, especially since his career rebirth, but those words apply to Maggie, the most surprising film of his muscular career. Surprising because the film deals with a world in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, but you won't find Schwarzenegger stacking up piles of undead corpses or anything like that. Instead, Maggie is an affecting family drama that should appeal to fans of The Walking Dead rather than those expecting Dawn of the Dead.

Directed by graphic designer Henry Hobson, the atmosphere is a portrait of misery and despair in the wake of a zombie virus outbreak. Schwarzenegger is Wade, a stoic Midwestern farmer who tracks down his runaway daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) and discovers she's been infected by "The Turn". While the worst of the chaos seems to be over, the world has settled into a "quarantine and eliminate" scenario...
A movie appropriately named--it is a story of a girl, not a zombie
I never review movies, but I felt I had to do this one. The number of negative reviews has me a bit riled. I really liked this movie, a lot. It's dark and quietly intense, the camera work is beautiful, and it felt wholly realistic. This is NOT a "zombie flick." It's about illness and fear, about being hated because you are sick. This is a movie about a girl, dealing with her own imminent death. It's about her love for her father, and his love for her. This is Maggie's story, regardless of the fame of her costar, and I am so very glad I decided to watch it.

NOT yet ANOTHER zombie movie...thank goodness
PHEW. Not another ZOMBIE movie as I feared as I began watching. This is a meditative, intimate film that is much more about accepting the death of a child and accepting your own death when you are still young and fall ill. It's about how to you want to live and how to you want to die and when we need to get beyond our attachment in order to spare suffering. That said - this isn't a spoonful of medicine. It's a beautifully shot film with a great chemistry between Arnold and Abigail. I was pleasantly surprised by the film and even more surprised that it had an emotional effect.

Also - while we have seen supposed "real life" approaches to the genre - this comes the closest I have ever seen to capturing what it might be like on an intimate scale - without all the men in hazmat suits and soldiers exterminating people.

Want a zombie movie? Move along...rent something else. This film is not scary except in the sense of the body dying/turning against you...
