This type of thing delivers surpass the anticipation, this place has developed into a fantastic replace on personally, The concept showed up properly and swiftly Dragon Ball: Season 2

The search for the seven magic balls continues!

After meeting his match in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku embarks on a mission to recover the Four Star Dragon Ball that once belonged to his grandfather. His treacherous quest will take him from the terrifying heights of Muscle Tower to the darkest depths of the deep blue sea. But with the Flying Nimbus under his feet and Bulma’s Dragon Radar leading the way – there’s nothing mighty Goku can’t handle.

With a dangerous new adversary out to get him, this will be Goku’s most dangerous adventure yet. The sinister Red Ribbon Army, led by cigar-chomping Commander Red, is determined to seize the seven Dragon Balls and use them to conquer the world! Watch as colonels, generals, ninjas, android pirates, and giant pink monsters use every dirty trick in the book to stop Goku from getting his hands on the magic Dragon Balls!

Enjoy the next chapter in the saga of this legendary warrior with Dragon Ball: Season Two!The second season of the hit fantasy Dragon Ball concludes the story line involving pint-sized Emperor Pilaf and focuses on Goku's battles with the nasty officers of the Red Ribbon Army. The evil General Red wants the magic Dragon Balls to make him ruler of the world; Goku wants the Four Star Ball as a souvenir of his adoptive grandfather, who owned it. Chuckling merrily as he goes from battle to battle, the irrepressible Goku dispatches the minions of General White in Muscle Tower and befriends android Number Eight (whose appearance and kindly demeanor may remind American viewers of Milton the Monster). After a visit to Bulma, Goku tackles effete General Blue and a robot pirate on a hidden island. Season 2 ends as Goku challenges Korin, the cat who controls magical, strength-giving water atop a precipitous tower. Goku needs the water to grow stronger and defeat assassin Tao Pai Pai, who murdered his friend Oopa's father, Bora.

Although Goku's adventures will delight legions of fans, these episodes include some of the most egregious stereotypes in the Dragon Ball franchise: Oopa and Bora are clichéd American Indians in war paint and feathers, while General Blue minces and swishes (his dialogue in the subtitles is quite offensive). Parts of the episodes set at Muscle Tower were recut into the fourth Dragon Ball movie, The Path to Power (Saikyou e no Michi, 1996), also known as "The Way to Become the Strongest." Rated TV 14, but appropriate for ages 12 and up: nudity, risqué and toilet humor, cartoon violence, ethnic stereotypes, alcohol and tobacco use). --Charles Solomon

Review :
Dragon Ball Z remastered
Quick Facts: I'm 27, been a fan of Dragon Ball Z since 1999, and a fan of anime since 1992. I'm very picky about uncut anime, and I always prefer the original aspect ratio. I dislike English dubs as most any anime fan does. This is my first review of a DVD.

Video: FUNimations claims this is a widescreen transfer from the original video. Dragonball Z fans are screaming the original video was cropped to make it widescreen. I've spent the last 2 days with WinDVD and Photoshop to confirm or disprove this. Anyone who does image editing knows that cropping a 4:3 image to 16:9 can be really dramatic. After watching 67 episodes of this new release from FUNimation, I wasn't completely convinced about the transfer being cropped from it's original 4:3 aspect ratio. Dragonball Z fans are correct to say the widescreen transfer is cropped, but they also would need to admit to that the 4:3 broadcast we fans know and love was also cropped! The widescreen transfer has extended video on the...

The last time I saw a cartoon series that captivated me to watch it from start to finish was around 10-15 years ago (Transformers: Beast Wars & Mobile Suit Gundam Wing). Cartoons of today don't seem to hold up very well compared to their predecessors as I continue to have a hard time finding a more "recent" cartoon show to watch. So I decided to look to the past for a great show to immerse myself in.

Now that's where Dragon Ball comes in. I remember watching DBZ on Toonami to what seems like ages ago, I remember vaguely watching Dragon Ball at a best friend's house, but I only remembered the episode "Oolong the Terrible." Without hesitation, I purchased all five box sets, and what began as simply an "impulse" buy became something much more.

Everything about Dragon Ball, every episode, character, storyline, and yes even the filler itself I enjoyed, I thought everything was great. I can't think of a show since Beast Wars, GW & Cowboy Bebop where I was excited to...
Your Second Wish Has Been Granted...
The new first season set of Dragon Ball uncut isn't even out yet and they've already announced this season two set. While the main reason to buy the first is the first chance ever to own the original thirteen episodes uncut in a proper North American set most fans will probably continue on buying this one as well. I suspect many of those who already own this batch of episodes uncut on the old sets will buy this one as well in an effort to collect all the episodes in nice sets that complement each other when lined up on a shelf. Given the running time of 720 minutes this set should contain the following thirty episodes from the Red Ribbon Army, General Blue and Commander Red Sagas:

32 The Flying Fortress: Vanished!
33 The Legend of a Dragon
34 Cruel General Red
35 Cold Reception
36 Major Metallitron

Your Fourth Wish Has Been Granted...
Funimation is still getting these sets out for fans who don't already own the series uncut or fans who may have purchased their old sets but don't mind double dipping for these well done sets that line up so nicely on the shelf, especially alongside the orange Dragon Ball Z season sets. This 5-disc fourth 'season' set of Dragon Ball will contain the following 30 episodes from 2 sagas:

Tien Shinhan Saga

93 Tien Shinhan vs. Jacky Chun
94 Stepping Down
95 Goku vs. Krillin

97 Final Match: Goku vs. Tien Shinhan

Things Are About To Get Real...(Pt. 4 of 5)
As Goku steps into the ring at the World Martial Arts Tournament against Tien Shinhan, little does he know that his world is about to get even bigger. As he dukes it out with Tien there is a dark cloud looming over the world, darker than Goku can even begin to fathom. That dark cloud is in the form of a ruthless tyrant named King Piccolo. Piccolo is the strongest being on the planet and even with the discovery of the Dragon Balls, his goal is not world domination. Rather, his goal is to destroy every human being on the planet. Now with Tien and Chiatzou as strong allies with some new friends by his side, Goku is about to face Piccolo head on. The only thing here is Goku is not going into this fight with the mindset of saving world alone. This time it is something much, much more.

While I was enjoying watching Dragon Ball, this is the point of the Dragon Ball story line that was truly looking forward to the most. The show has so many positives when it reaches this point...

This type of subject Offer exceeded own anticipation, that one has turned into a great buy for me personally, The theory appeared correctly and also quickly Dragon Ball Z: Season 7 (Great Saiyaman & World Tournament Sagas)

Seven years of peace have passed since the defeat of the monstrous Cell, and the Z-Fighters have enjoyed a return to normal life. Goku has eagerly continued his training in Other World, Krillin has gotten married, and Gohan has renewed his scholarly pursuits while attempting to navigate the pitfalls of high school. Two fresh new Saiyan faces have also appeared on the scene—Goku’s son Goten, and Vegeta’s son Trunks!

Now, the time has come for the Z-Fighters to reunite, as the new World Martial Arts Tournament is set to begin. The greatest warriors on Earth have come together for their chance to capture the title of the reigning champion, Mr. Satan—but behind the scenes, sinister forces are at work. An evil eye watches the competitors’ every move, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. The action grows fierce on the tournament floor, but for the Z-Fighters, the real fight is only just beginning!

Stills from Dragon Ball Z: Season Seven (Click for larger image)

Seven years have passed since the tournament in which Gohan defeated Cell. Goku remains in the Next World, rather than risk attracting more evil beings to Earth, but he cheerfully trains under the watchful eye of King Kai (and the other Kais). After years of studying under his mother's tutelage, Gohan enters high school. Although he's awkward around his fellow students, he uses his incredible powers to fight crime in the nearby city as "Great Saiyaman." His feats of daring-do bring him into conflict with martial arts champion, crime fighter, and classmate Videl, the daughter of the obnoxious Mr. Satan. Their rivalry quickly turns into a maladroit mutual attraction. When a new tournament is announced, Gohan begins training himself and his seven-year-old brother Goten. Most of the season is devoted to the preparations for the tournament and its first rounds: Goku returns to Earth for one day to participate; Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 18, Gohan, Videl, Goten, and Trunks all enter, with Mr. Satan ranked as the defending champion. Most of the story is silly, even by the undemanding standards of Dragon Ball Z, and fans generally regard this season as an interlude between the "Cell" and "Majin Buu" sagas. The latter begins in the final episodes, as two over-muscled thugs in the service of the evil wizard Babidi steal energy from Gohan's Super-Saiyan form. They hope to release the horrible monster Buu, the creation of Babidi's father Bibidi. Ranked against them are the Z Fighters, the Supreme Kai and his attendant Kibit. Review :
Great Saiyaman!!
Season 7 takes place after the drool-worthy ending to the Cell games in which Gohan obliterates Cell with his one-handed Kamehameha wave.

Now a few years later Gohan is ready to start High School which means no more home school from Chi Chi.

However, directly before this Goku takes part in a filler martial arts tournament from beyond the grave and we get to see Frieza, King Cold, The Ginyu Force and even Cell again one more time. The final battle of the tournament is Goku (duh) vs. Pikkon under supervision of the Grand Kai. This part honestly has nothing to do with the overall plot of the series and was just a filler section before the next arc starts.

Back to Gohan (and the actual story). Gohan is on his way to school, sees a robbery, and transforms to a SSJ to beat his enemies in a flash.

Now the whole town is going on about the "Gold Fighter". So, in order to draw attention from his new superhero Gohan creates another superhero with a...
Loved the Great Saiyaman arc but some may have problems with the three episodes per disc (disc 4-6)
I have to admit that I'm a bit biased towards the "Dragon Ball Z" anime series. I loved the series when it was first release in Japan and still passionate about it today.

The fact that FUNimation Entertainment releases these season box sets with plenty of episodes (25 in this box set) for under $30 is just awesome! Could you imagine that just several years ago, the series was released with only a few episodes per disc (and there are literally a few hundred episodes of DBZ) and were sold for under $20 at one time. So, the fact that you can watch all these episodes with digitally remastered video and revised audio is just great!

As for this box set, personally I enjoyed the Great Saiyaman arc. We watched little Gohan grow up and now he is a teenager and although he doesn't know it yet, he has met someone he cares about and willing to help her no matter what. The chemistry between Gohan and Bedil is just awesome and episodes just focusing on these two were just...
Hopefully Helpful Information
This isn't supposed to be released until next week as of my writing this but i stumbled across a copy that must have shipped early and made it to the shelves at my local walmart earlier tonight. This season contains the following 25 episodes:

195 Warriors of the Dead- Goku meets Grand Kai and runs into Cell & Frieza Again
196 Tournament Begins- Goku enters another world tournament

198 Final Round- Other world tournament heats up, final round begins
200 Goku vs. Pikkon- Other world tournament ends, will Goku or Pikkon win

DBZ Fan!
DBZ is the best action anime of all time, and the DBZ movie pack 2 containes one of the best DBZ movies of all, (Broly,The Legendary Super Sayian). This is a must have for all DBZ and anime fans!

4 of the best DBZ movies
It's Dbz, what's not to like lol. Seriously if you're a fan, this is a must buy, this 4 movies are 4 of the best Dbz movies, at least IMO. This collection contains 4 movies, 2 cases contains 2 movies a piece, very simple. Starting with The Return of Cooler then Super Andriod 13, Broly : The Legendary Super Saiyan, ending with Bojack Unbound (my fav). I highly recommend this collection, each of the movies have been remastered, so the DVD quality looks great, it actually looks of BlueRay quality. Definitely buy this, if you're a fan, you absolutely can't go wrong with this collection.

Great DBZ Collection!
Four great movies starting with Metal Cooler, Super Android 13, Broly the legendary Super Saiyan, and ending with Bojack and his crew. The quality is great and the movie is uncensored (just blood showing) like it originally should be. If your looking for the best DBZ has to offer, this collection comes very close, awesome action is always present but there are DBZ movies with better animations and destruction in them. If your a true fan this is a must own!

Stills from Dragon Ball Z: Season Eight (Click for larger image)

The eighth and penultimate season of Dragon Ball Z pits the Z Fighters, the Supreme Kai, and his attendant Kibito against the evil wizard Babidi, who hopes to release the monster Buu, which his father Bibidi created. (The names are apparently a back-handed salute to Walt Disney's Cinderella.) Goku, who's technically dead but still visting from the Other World, joins Vegeta and Gohan in the initial fights against Babidi's minions. As the battles escalate, Babidi use Vegeta's overweening pride to entrap the Saiyan Prince and turn him against his allies. It's all Goku can do to win Vegeta back, and the energy loosed in their stand-off enables Babidi to free Buu. Instead of one of the over-muscled behemoths the Z Fighters usually tackle, Buu is an obnoxious, infantile creature who looks like a sumo wrestler molded out of pink marshmallows. But he's incredibly powerful and resilient: even the Saiyans can't defeat him. Goku realizes only one warrior can destroy Buu: Goten and Trunks in their Super-Saiyan forms must fuse to form an über-hero. The boys initially balk, as the Dance of Fusion looks and feels silly. But Gohan and Picollo whip them into shape and the formidable Gotenks appears. Season 8 offers much more action and excitement than the World Tournament story that takes up most of Season 7. But unlike the earlier DBZ adventures, the Babidi & Majin Buu Sagas end on a cliffhanger, with the fate of the Earth and its inhabitants hanging in the balance. The eighth season of "DRAGON BALL Z" is here with 34-episodes of non-stop action and utter destruction of the planet Earth. This season now continues with the final leg of the popular "DRAGON BALL Z series".

At the end of the seventh season, the Z-Warriors gathered for the latest World's Martial Arts Tournament. But we learn that Babidi and his minions were there for one thing, to capture enough energy to revive the biggest threat that the universe had faced many, many years ago...that threat is known as Majin Buu.

It was a gift.
I sent these movies to my older brother for Christmas. I remember him watching Dragon Ball Z while we were younger and I never understood while he liked this anime series so much, . . until my boyfriend got a hold of the Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Z series, and the Dragon Ball GT series. I literally watched every episode with my boyfriend non stop, until we we got somewhere in GT, because GT wasn't as good as Dragon Ball Z in my opinion, I digress, these series are amazing in every way. The story of Goku and his friends is absolutely amazing, you get to know every character and you feel like your a part of this badass story, this is one of my most favorite anime series of all time, In fact it is my number one choice and in my opinion the best. To wrap things up I made my brother very happy with this gift and I'm sure if you know anyone who was or is a Dragon Ball fan they would really enjoy these movies.

Childhood
Nothing but perfection! The quality is excellent and being able to see your favorite superheros on DVD is priceless. Kids and adults will love this collection of movies.

Awesome Collection
I love DragonBall Z since I was little. To have this collection in my procession is amazing to me because for a long time I couldn't find the movies for DBZ. Now that technology has changed since then a lot of remakes are being made. This version is from the original Japanese intro and outros. I grew up on the 90s version of the intro and outros so for this one I was a bit surprised but the picture is clear as it can be. It a WONDERFUL collection. I just love it. If you are a DBZ fan, you must get it.

Review :
Good first set
I've had all the "orange brick" Dragon Ball Z season boxes for a good while now, but always wanted to get the movies too. I kept putting it off because the single DVDs for all the movies were a bit expensive, especially since I was planning on owning them all at some point. Then I saw these movie packs being released and I jumped at the chance to finally get the movies.

Since I have never owned the DBZ movies, this purchase was a no-brainer for me. The box itself houses the 5 movies in 3 separate slim cases which I thought was a nice touch. No booklets or anything this time, just the movies themselves which is sort of a bummer but not a deal breaker. Quality wise the animation looks crisp and I've enjoyed watching these, most of them for the first time.

I look forward to purchasing the rest of these movie packs.

Good for quality bad for nostalgia trips
I loved DBZ ever since i was 4 years and was an advid fan. I bought this box set as a way to relive that childhood. Particularly with the movie the tree of might. But one thing i forgot to include in choosing this box set is that the first three movies do not include the original pioneer dub. Which is okay if its your first time watching dbz or its movies. But for me it made the voice acting weak and a bit cheesy. Which really took away the essence of the movie tree of might. (Which i consider the best of the first three DBZ movies) Since i watched it a thousand times i couldnt help but compare how much better the voice acting was in the original dub. So instead of watching the tree of might with same attention, focus, and astonishment i found myself just fast forwarding to the fight scenes. But besides that the quality is really good the audio sounds way better and its definately good for the price. Apart from the first 3 movies i would rate this box set and the rest of the...
Great set, very cost effective.
I've owned all the DBZ movie singles for several years, but I decided to pick this up for the upgrade in visual quality and presentation during a flash sale. This is a great replacement to my previous discs, as the original covers are retained (and apparently upgraded), the remastering makes the film look much better, and the widescreen presentation matches how the movies were originally shown at Shonen Jump festivals in Japan when the movies were coming out. The only drawback is that the dub isn't very consistent with the original Japanese, but the subtitles for the original version are great and I've enjoyed watching all the movies again for such an efficient price.

Majin Buu’s spree of terror continues, and his ruthlessness knows no bounds! In his quest to eliminate the remaining Z-Fighters, Buu has cut a path of destruction across the face of the Earth, leaving a trail of devastation so utterly complete that it may even be beyond the power of the Dragon Balls to repair...

With their efforts to stop Majin Buu quickly proving futile, the Z-Fighters have but one remaining hope against this seemingly invincible foe—the Fusion Technique! But for this desperate plan to succeed, Goku will have to join forces with his oldest rival, Vegeta! Can the combined efforts of these two mighty Saiyan warriors put a stop to Majin Buu once and for all? The final battle for the fate of the universe begins!

Stills from Dragon Ball Z: Season Nine (Click for larger image)

The final season of Dragon Ball Z picks up where season 8 left off, with Trunks, Gohan, Goten, Vegeta, and Goku fighting to save the universe from the monster Majin Buu. The protracted battle lasts 33 episodes (#254 to #286). Buu has the color and texture of bubble gum: The Saiyans punch him out, blast off limbs, and blow him into smithereens, only to see him return to his original form. Buu also mutates constantly. He fights himself--his "good" side vs. the purely evil one; he grows stronger when he absorbs Goten, Trunks, Gohan, and Piccolo, but somehow gets even stronger when he "de-absorbs" them. The resolution, involving the combined efforts of the Z-fighters, the Kais, and the Namekian Dragon Balls, leaves the filmmakers with nothing to fill the remaining episodes, so they jump the story ahead 10 years. Trunks and Goten are teenagers, Gohan and Videl have a daughter, Pan. Although he's a grandfather, Goku remains as irrepressible and irresponsible as ever. When Mr. Satan organizes another martial arts tournament, Goku enters to take on a mysterious young fighter, then cheerfully abandons his family to train the new champion. It's a weak ending for one of the most popular series in anime history. Not bad EXCEPT NO BOOKLET
I ordered this in November when it was $11.99, didn't open til this week January 2012. I was surprised it was missing the Character bio/Episode guide Booklet. Also, the plastic thing holding the disc were chipped and cracked. It seemed like I got a used copy but sold as new. Contacted Amazon they did a replacement 1 day shipping. Got it today and opened it up. YES, it was Brand NEW no scratches no cracked or anything.....BUT NO BOOKLET AGAIN. I went on amazon reading the latest reviews and people are not getting the BOOKLET either. Strange I got booklet for all the other ones except this one. I thought Amazon got a faulty batch or something. So I emailed ProductConcerns@funimation.com

Within an hour I get this reply

GREAT ANIME, despite the naysayers!!!
There will always be those that give this series bad reviews, but the fact remains it was one of the closest-to-script adaptations with some of the coolest voices from the cast of Funimation (as far as the English dub is concerned).

YES some supposedly 5 minute fights are dragged out over 10 episodes or more

YES Toriyama-san wanted to stop at the Freeza saga but the fans wanted more so it was pushed all the way to Buu saga

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT??? It has a solid story and solid action, great fights, great characters and development, and AWESOME villains. This anime gets an 11 out of 10!

The ultimate Dragon Ball Z - Collect them all!One of the most popular franchises in anime history, Dragon Ball began in 1984 as a manga by Akira Toriyama in Shonen Jump. Dragon Ball Z (1989), the second TV adaptation, is the most beloved: it ran for 291 episodes--more than Dragon Ball (1986) and Dragon Ball GT (1996) combined. Over the years, the program has introduced countless boys to the world of Japanese animation. The first season re-introduces the main characters and sets up a new threat. Goku learns he's not an Earthling, but a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. Only three other Saiyans survive, all of them extremely powerful and destructive. Goku destroys Raditz with the help of Piccolo, but dies in the process. He spends much of the season training in the Other World with King Kai. Piccolo takes over training Goku's son Gohan, anticipating he will have to face the remaining Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. These episodes set the pattern for the combination of martial arts training, fantasy-battles and slapstick comedy that make the series so popular. The storyline rambles, with lots of digressions, repeats, and false endings--none of which bother the fans. Although Dragon Ball Z has been released previously in the US, Funimation pulled out all the stops for this edition. The entire series has been remastered from the original prints, and the Japanese language track is included for the first time. (Goku and Krillin have higher-pitched, younger voices than they do in the American dub.) For Dragon Ball Z fans, this version clearly supercedes all previous ones. (Rated TV PG. suitable for ages 8 and older: violence; minor incidents of risqué and toilet humor, ethnic stereotyping and alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

    Review :
Satisfied long time adult fan of DBZ

Amazing if you have an HDTV , still good without!
Well first, I would like to say that I own the COMPLETE original Dragonball Z DVD's that Funimation originally released. If you are wondering which to buy, then I will try to be of some help.

This particular season, was re-released by Funimation, the voices were re-done to be that of the Frieza Saga and beyond (all of you may know that Vegeta and Goku's voices sounded kind of wimpy when Pioneer did them). There are episodes that were NOT released to DVD originally by Pioneer, and these are all un-cut. Now lots of people are saying that this is "cropped", I have yet to notice them, yes, you did lose some screen on the top and bottom, but have you ever tried watching the 4:3 format of DBZ on a HDTV? It looks awful, it is very pixel lated, and blurry and whenever they do a Energy blast, you can see freckles around it. If you have a Wide-screen TV and want these again, buy these, you will NOT be disappointed. The colors are amazing to say the least, and you cannot even tell...
The Most Controversial Anime Gets A Controversial DVD
"Dragon Ball Z" is the most controversial anime ever made. Not for reasons because of questionable content in the vein of "Evangelion," "Cowboy Bebop," and "Koi Kaze" (though the show is very violent), but just in various different arguments. Some people feel that "Dragon Ball Z" represents the best anime has to offer, while other people believe that "Dragon Ball Z" represents the worst anime has to offer. Add into the fact that "Dragon Ball Z" has had one of the most questionable dubs of all time, and (along with "Sailor Moon") helped make anime popular in the USA (before "Pokemon" and "Yu-Gi-Oh!" painted anime as thirty minute toy commercials). With a reputation like that, "Dragon Ball Z" is certainly one of the most important animes ever made, but the show has been a hassle to buy if you were a fan of the show. Released in overpriced DVD's that retailed for $25 each and contained three episodes a piece, one had to buy at least SEVENTY DVD's before they could get all of "Dragon Ball...

NTSC/Region1. In 1986, the animated adaptation of Akira Toriyama's manga Dragon Ball debuted on Japanese television, launching one of the most popular franchises in anime history. Dragon Ball introduced a special mixture of male bonding, rigorous training, martial arts fighting, slapstick comedy, and sci-fi action that scored a huge hit with boys and led to the follow-ups Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. In 1986, the animated adaptation of Akira Toriyama's manga Dragon Ball debuted on Japanese television, launching one of the most popular franchises in anime history. Dragon Ball introduced a special mixture of male bonding, rigorous training, martial arts fighting, slapstick comedy, and sci-fi action that scored a huge hit with boys and led to the follow-ups Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT--and numerous imitators. A small boy from another planet, Goku commands super-human strength, but he was raised in the remote mountains by an old man and he knows little of the world. Goku meets Bulma, who's trying to assemble the seven magical Dragon Balls so she can wish for a boyfriend. The naive boy and the hot-tempered girl join forces, then form a quarrelsome alliance with Oolong, the shape-shifting pig, and Yamcha, a dashing bandit with a metamorphic familiar, Puar. The heroes compete for the Dragon Balls against the pint-sized Emperor Pilaf (who wants to rule the world). After defeating Pilaf, Goku goes to study martial arts with Master Roshi, a lecherous but extraordinarily skilled old man. Goku and fellow student Krillin develop formidable powers that they use in the World Martial Arts Tournament. These episodes set the pattern for Dragon Ball and numerous other series: humans and creatures of all description train endlessly, then gather to pound the ramen out of each other before an audience. Naturally, the hero wins in an extended final match. The first adventures are lighter in tone and more broadly comic than the beginning of the darker Red Ribbon Saga. For years, the first13 episodes of Dragon Ball were only available in the U.S. in the heavily edited set Saga of Goku, to the chagrin of the fans. Following their successful release of the complete Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, Funimation is presenting Dragon Ball uncut and digitally restored. The series probably looks better now than it did when it premiered, as it was reportedly filmed in 16mm. Note: The sight of the prepubescent Goku and Krillin running around naked doesn't bother Japanese audiences. (Rated TV 14, but appropriate for ages 12 and up: nudity, risqué and toilet humor, cartoon violence, ethnic stereotypes, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

    Your Wish Has Been Granted...
I have long wondered when Funimation would finally get the rights to the first thirteen episodes of Dragon Ball allowing them to release a proper set. Now after all that waiting it's finally going to happen and their giving us the first two sagas and beginning of the third all in one set! I'm ecstatic to read from Gen Fukunaga, president at CEO at FUNimation Entertainment, that the original thirteen episodes will be redone uncut as up til now they've only been properly available in a highly edited DVD set titled 'The Saga of Goku'. While I happily purchased that set long ago from LionsGate Entertainment I'm more than happy to upgrade to this set if it means finally owning those first thirteen uncut episodes.
This set will contain the following 31 episodes from the Goku/Pilaf, Tournament and Red Ribbon Army Sagas:

The Saga Of Goku/Emperor Pilaf Saga

1 Secret of the Dragon Ball
    2 The Emperor's Quest
3 The Nimbus Cloud Of Roshi

Love the content, but noticeable problem with Funimation's packaging
Dragon Ball is a classic work, and this series of boxed sets is totally worth owning for the content alone. There's not much I can add to the discussion of how great this lighthearted, 80's action-adventure is --- but I CAN mention the dissatisfying experience I had with Funimation's DVD packaging. It's hard to review my love of this series against the problem I had with Funimation's packaging, but I hope it can help people get a better idea of what they might run into if they decide to purchase these boxed sets.

Every Dragon Ball season set (there are 5) is supposed to come with a roughly 20 page collector's Episode Guide Booklet, that contains character profiles, illustrations and episode summaries. They're nicely produced, and the summaries in particular are very helpful if you ever need to find your place as you make your way through this rather lengthy 153-episode series.

When I ordered all 5 seasons in the mail, however, I found that TWO of the seasons I...
Dragon Ball Season One Remastered - Awesome!
I actually started out as a Dragon Ball Z fan back when the series first aired in the US on Cartoon Network. Over last year, I bought all of the remastered Dragon Ball Z seasons as well as the Dragon Ball GT series. I was looking forward to seeing the original Dragon Ball series which deals with the earlier years of Goku, Krillin, Bulma, etc.

I have to say that this first season of Dragon Ball was not disappointing. In fact, I think it is in many ways better than Dragon Ball Z. Why? Quite simply, this work is not only extremely funny, but you don't have to wait through episode after episode after episode (like in Dragon Ball Z) to see the ultimate outcome of something. The story moves at a very reasonable pace.

Warning! There is a lot of sexual innuendo in Dragon Ball. Far more than in Dragon Ball Z. It's extremely hilarious but if you are bit prudish about this topic, don't buy this series.

I love the interaction of Bulma with Goku. It is...

    Dragonball is amazing!
I have always loved Dragonball Z since it debuted in America in 1996. I own every episode and have watched the series beginning to end more times than I can count. The crazy thing is I never watched Dragonball until now in 2010. I absolutely love it. I bought the season 1, 2, and 3 box sets and I am addicted to it. It changes the way I look at DBZ, I love them both. My only problem is waiting for the last 2 box sets. I wish I became a fan later this year :). I could watch it on the net but waiting 2-3 months will make it an even greater treat and my anticipation will be through the roof. I love the Japanese music they have, its different than the American music in that there are a lot more quiet scenes in DB than the Faulconer dub of DBZ. In the BF DBZ dub they play music for everything in this there are more quiet scenes. Its great!

''You won't believe how powerful it is now!'' -- NewType

Having suffered heavy losses in the battle with the Saiyans, and with Goku still recovering from his injuries, the remaining Z-Fighters must embark on a perilous journey to Planet Namek in search of the Namekian Dragon Balls. Unbeknownst to them, however, a powerful new enemy has set his sights on the same prize the ruthless tyrant Frieza!

Beset on all sides by danger, Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma must fight for their lives as they struggle to keep the Dragon Balls from falling into evil hands. Meanwhile, Goku races against time to join his friends in their quest, but waiting for him on Planet Namek is an army of the most powerful villains the universe has ever known, led by Frieza s most elite fighting unit the unstoppable Ginyu Force!

    Season Two contains:

-The Complete Namek Saga - first time on DVD! and Captain Ginyu Saga

    -35 Action-Packed Episodes on 6 discs

-Revised English Dialogue with Original Japanese MusicThe second season of the wildly popular Dragon Ball Z comprises the "Namek" and "Captain Ginyu" sagas. Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma travel to the planet Namek to find an even more powerful set of Dragon Balls that can restore the lives of Tenshinhan, Yamucha, Chaozu and Piccolo, who were killed by Vegeta during the first season. (Their souls continue to train with King Kai in the Other World.) All is not well on Namek: the arch-villain Frieza, who looks and sounds a bit like Truman Capote, also desires the Dragon Balls. If he uses them to obtain eternal life, he'll rule the universe forever. With a cadre of lieutenants that includes Vegeta, he slaughters the Namekians to gain the supernatural orbs. After his injuries have been healed by a magic senzu bean, Goku heads to Namek. En route, he trains at 100 gravities, raising his powers enormously. Vegeta believes Goku may be the legendary Super Saiyan that appears once a millennium--except he lacks the requisite love of battle. This version of Goku is less aggressive, and he uncharacteristically uses his brain (never his greatest asset) to defeat Ginyu, Frieza's second-in-command. Unlike Season 1--Vegeta Saga, Season 2ends on a cliff-hanger. Skeptics may find Goku's adventures needlessly protracted, over the top, and even silly. But for millions of boys, they provide the special blend of comradeship, martial arts training, and take-no-prisoners battles they love. The newly remastered edition includes the original Japanese dialogue for the first time. (Rated TV PG. suitable for ages 8 and older: violence, minor risqué humor, brief nudity, tobacco and alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

    Journey to the West

    34 Cruel General Red
    35 Cold Reception

    Long, Long Trailer, The (DVD)

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz live slaphappily ever after as newlyweds honeymooning in The Long, Long Trailer, breezily directed by Vincente Minnelli. They quickly find that the interior of a moving trailer is ideal for tossing a Caesar salad - and everything else. That backing up their 40-foot, three-ton home is only a little more difficult than threading a needle wearing boxing gloves. And that trailer-park folks are neighborly sorts who turn the lovebirds' rig into the wrong, wrong trailer by crashing the wedding night. Co-starring comedy pros Marjorie Main and Keenan Wynn (Ball's frequent co-star in her MGM days), this smash was filmed at the height of the I Love Lucy craze and is packed with the inventive sight gags and physical humor that made the series a TV landmark. If you like the Trailer, you're going to love the movie!

]]>Besides making television history as the producers and stars of television's immensely popular I Love Lucy and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, Lucille Ball and her husband, Desi Arnaz, starred in three quite agreeable feature films. The second of these, 1954's The Long, Long Trailer, in gorgeous Technicolor and directed by Vincente Minnelli, is a somewhat allegorical tale of a newly married couple who invest in a 40-foot trailer as their first home--and immediately regret it. Well, at least Arnaz's character does; he's the one who has anxiety attacks over operating electric brakes while steering up and down one-lane, mountain roads. Sight gags are plentiful: a scene in which Ball tries to make beef stew, a Caesar salad, and cake in a wobbling, moving trailer is classic Lucy. But there are some genuine dramatic sequences in this handsome movie, too, and the stars rise to the occasion. --Tom Keogh

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
Watching the Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz film "The Long, Long Trailer" some 50+ years after it was made, is a rather surreal experience. By 1953, The "Baby Boom" was indeed booming, tract housing was all over the place like crab grass, trailer parks multiplied like jackrabbits, and Americans were inundated with the wonders of "space age" technology. Big, flashy-looking cars, refrigerators, TV sets, "streamlined" furniture, and snazzy clothes were the things that everyone wanted to have. It was as if America wanted to wipe away its gritty, unglamourous past and face the space age all polished and waxed and Simonized. To see Eisenhower's America as depicted by MGM in better-than-real-life Technicolor and filmed largely on MGM's backlot (interspersed with location photography of Yosemite Park, etc) I feel like I'm watching home movies that were shot in a suburb of a distant planet! "The Long, Long Trailer" was made to capitalize on the overwhelming popularity of TV's "I Love Lucy", which...
the Short version of the Long Long Trailer
I looked forward to seeing this classic because we had recently purchased an RV and I remembered how hilarious the T.V. movie had seemed when I saw it as a child. Several of the key elements for humor where there...the rock collection, running over the flower beds, etc. But I recalled other parts of the movie that were not on this DVD.
There was alot more character and story development in the original version shown on T.V. I remember Spagehtti going all over the place...not in this DVD; and when Lucy (Tacey) was in the trailer with a sprained ankle, there was more in the sequence than shown (Marjorie Maine had a lot more speaking parts). Overall, it was fun seeing the highlights again, but I wish the entire movie had been shown. I'm wondering why they deleted some of it.

    SOOO Funny
We watch this wonderful movie once a year, just for the pleasure of anticipating each perfect scene. Directed by Vincent Minelli, and perfectly acted by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, this comedy takes us through the engagement and honeymoon of a young couple starting out life in an "up to date" way, in a trailer. Each cameo appearance by marvelous second and third banana studio people whose faces any movie buff will recognize is very enjoyable, too. There are two several scenes that are our favorites. 1) Tacy (Lucille B.) fixes dinner in a moving trailer (HAH) 2) Nicky (Desi A.) freaks out trying to get his golf clubs to fit in the trailer; 3) Tacy and Nicky try to get over the high passes in Colorado with a rock-filled trailer); 4) a mechanic explains why trailer brakes are soo important. This film is just too magical to believe. You have to see it.
