The most important party of the Savannah Christmas season ends with a bang! when affable host Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey) shoots a man to death. The party is over, the investigation begins. Director Clint Eastwood weaves murder, mystery and voodoo into a sumptuous adaptation of the John Berendt bestseller based on true events. Spacey and John Cusack as a journalist drawn to Savannah’s decadence and eccentrics lead a nimble cast that includes Jack Thompson, Alison Eastwood and The Lady Chablis. For “one of the best American films of the year” (Boston Herald), rendezvous at Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Review :
Southern Belle Savannah.
Adapting a book to the screen is always a risk, and adapting a successful book particularly so, especially if it is a nonfiction book and the story has already made news (or been the subject of gossip, which in this instance doesn't seem to make much difference) long before the book was ever written. There will always be those who claim that you didn't do the book justice, or that you didn't do the real events justice, or both. But let's face it, folks, the vast majority of us weren't witnesses to Jim Williams's record four trials, nor did we attend any of his famous Christmas parties, nor did or do we know Mr. Williams or any of the other inhabitants of Savannah featured so prominently here (even if Jerry Spence - not the attorney, the hairdresser appearing as himself in the movie - insists that ever since the publication of John Behrendt's book people have been asking him to sign their copy). All that most of us did was read the book ... yes, so did I, and I enjoyed it immensely...
Good music, good scenery, but very long movie
There were two reasons why I picked up this film: 1.) Kevin Spacey and 2.) it takes place in Savannah, GA, which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. I knew very little about the story; I knew that it had something to do with a murder, and that no one could figure out if the rich man (Spacey) had killed him or not. I found out later that it was in fact a true story, which made it even more intriguing. However, I feel that the heart of this movie lies not in the murder mystery itself, but in the eccentric characters who occupy the city of Savannah. John Cusack as an outsider becomes a representation of the audience, someone who stumbles along and slowly comes to appreciate the many different people of the city. The audience is taken on a whirlwind tour of some of the most interesting and odd people to exist in the South. I especially loved the Lady Chablis; that character is too melodramatic and amusing for words. In addition to the interesting...
A timeless piece of eccentric south
I have lived in the south all my life. Watching this movie reminded me of how beautiful and special this place is. Clint Eastwood's interpretation of John Berendt's piece of literary art was splendid in its own right. It reminded me of how rich our heritage is. The music, the superb casting (no one can deny the talent of the great Kevin Spacey) and the seemingly endless parade of characters kept me enthralled from the beginning. It's not often a film can pull at my heartstrings, teach me something about tolerance and history, reveal such beauty and amuse me at the same time. The movie so moved me that I read the book. Although somewhat different, each form was intriguing. I have just returned from Savannah. I was constantly reminded of the story of Jim Williams as I walked the squares and felt the history therein. This filmed turned attention once again to a wonderful magical place, the South.

Review :
Absolute Rubbish! Do not buy.
Despite what the Product Details state, both movies are in Full Screen only, what a waste. (Unless you like Full Screen, then you're welcome to it). These movies have a solid audience, why can't Warner Bros. realise this and put out a decent version on DVD? The movies on this disc don't look much better than the ones I taped off television... a decade ago. I would send mine back, but I'd already opened it before I discovered what a ripoof this was. Had the Format been accurately stated, I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. Very disappointing.

A FULL SCREEN rip-off
There's no excuse for these two films to be full screen only. Even at under $10 bucks it's a major rip-off. A resounding boooooooo to Warner Bros. for this botched double-feature.

Great Movies! Crappy DVD!
What a dissapointment. I was anxiously awaiting this disc mainly for the rereleased Road Warrior. Getting Thunderdome was just a bonus. When I received this disc I was depressed to discover no extras for the disc (I thought it would at least have the bonus content that was on the Blu Ray & HD-DVD edition recently released) plus these films are in standard FULL SCREEN! What a waste. Just save your money for the hoped for special edition release later in the year.

Carry On Supernatural, Carry On
Man this show just never gets old. Nine years and still going just as strong as when it began, even more so in my opinion. It's rare for a show to on for this long without bringing some kind of fatigue to the plot, but somehow they manage to keep it fresh. The action, the humor, the monsters, the writing, and the acting still represent some of the highest quality entertainment on television. I could really see this show becoming like Doctor Who or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a cult classic that will wind up spanning multiple generations.

Thus far season nine has picked up where season eight left off. The angels have all been locked out of heaven, Abaddon is still on the loose, Crowley is the Winchester's captive, and Castiel is (once again) merely human. So far we have a great story mash up, with some pretty cool monsters to be fought (does the Wicked Witch of the West mean anything to you?). I'll be updating this review when necessary as the season progresses to give a...
Baby boomer likes this series.
What can I say. I am not a young fan as I am retired. I have gotten really involved with the characters, and have now finished the 9th season. I have laughed and cried. And besides that there are many layers to this show. It is about love, evil and redemption

Nothing even comes close.
I am so in love with this show. I own every episode and I have hooked my students on it. I teach high school and needed something to get them in class on time. After a few of the first episodes to get them interested it is now a reward for being on time two weeks in a row. We call it Supernatural Friday!! I have perfect attendance now. And they are now buying it. Son of a B@tch!!!

It has been amazing to watch Dean and Sam grow into men and appreciate that the writing has allowed them to mature as well, while keeping the personality quirks that we have loved from day one. "Who does this?? Crazy people!" And I am glad the writers and producers are crazy people! But its not just the strength of the Winchester but to find gold with Bobby, Castiel and Crowley?? And I want to say kudos for keeping the same actors in those roles over so many seasons. I've also loved Bella, Meg, and Ruby. Bad B@tches with Attitude for sure!

So roll on Supernatural for I will...

Pick Your Poison: Dolby Atmos or 3D... But Not Both
Note: I'm updating this review as I've now had a chance to spend some quality time with this "Diamond Luxe" Special Edition Blu-ray Disc (I got a copy directly from the studio a couple of weeks ago).

Original review (pre-release):

"Gravity" is an intense audio and video experience, and an enjoyable film overall which is enhanced through the use of both 3D and Dolby Atmos surround. So why does the studio make us pick one or the other? The initial release of "Gravity" on Blu-ray is available in 3D, but with only a 5.1-channel soundtrack. It's a great-looking and sounding disc, but lacks the immersiveness of Dolby Atmos. This "Diamond Luxe" edition of the film will have a Dolby Atmos mix, but is not available in 3D. Frustrating!

I saw the film two nights in a row in theaters: first in Dolby Atmos (in 3D), then in IMAX (also 3D). Both were enjoyable, but the pinpoint precision of sound available in Dolby Atmos made certain...
One of the best sci-fi movies I have ever seen
Many people don't take science fiction seriously, but here's a movie that might work for those who don't usually like the genre. There are no aliens, unknown worlds, monsters, or laser shootouts. This is a movie that's set in the real world, or more accurately, above it.

The story opens with a George Clooney voice-over. We meet astronauts working to repair a satellite. This shows how calm such a silent world can be. I reluctantly saw the movie in 3D, but this was one occasion that I came away feeling that it added to the experience. It almost made me dizzy seeing Ryan Stone (Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (Clooney) go about their routine business with Earth looming large in the background. Indeed, the cinematography was breathtaking throughout the 90 minutes.

I don't want to give away too many details, but if you have seen the trailer or even looked at the poster, you'll know that this movie is far from being a calm ride. An accident sends debris racing toward the...

Review :
A Hard-Hitting, Gritty, Emotional Family Crime Thriller with Plenty of Heart and Raw Action
This was by far one of the few movies I've seen in recent months that I absolutely enjoyed every minute of in theaters - to my utmost surprise. It is Liam Neeson's best action movie in a very long time - and blows the socks off any of the garbage "Taken 2/3" Hollywood cash-grab sequels that are purely for money. Yes this does have some awesome action/chase/fight scenes, but at heart this is definitely not a "Taken" film - this is a hard-hitting raw family drama similar to Warrior with all the grit and raw street-ugliness of NARC (and then some). It's a mile-a-minute thrill ride shot brilliantly and has plenty of heart. You really do feel like you are watching these characters and this world Run All Night. Tone-wise, this film is perfect and I couldn't have asked for a more appropriate and darker-looking treatment. The cinematography, the film palette, the raw look and feel just made this all the more serious to watch - excellent. Acting was stellar and relationships...
An effective, old-school action flick imbued with intelligence
Theatrical review. There may be spoilers. While aging movie stars making action movies is nothing new, perhaps no one has been more visible than 62 year old Liam Neeson ("Taken" trilogy, "A Walk Among the Tombstones," "Non-Stop," "Unknown" and others). Here Neeson reunites with director Jaume Collet-Serra ("Non-Stop" and "Unknown) in what may be his best yet.

Neeson plays Jimmy Conlon, a broken-down, drunken hit man for Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris) the head of a NYC mob faction. Maguire, while still shady, is trying to go a bit legit. Jimmy isn't getting anything to do, but his old buddy Shawn feels sorry for him so throws him a bone now and then. Shawn's son Danny (Boyd Holbrook, who also worked with Neeson in "A Walk Among the Tombstones"), is still wanting to do some serious crime and invites some Albanian heroin traffickers to meet with dear old dad in order to pave the way for the drugs being introduced to the city pipeline. But Shawn wants no part of the drug...
Dont expect any heroes nor winners in this one...
Run All Night (2015) is a non-stop-action drama along the lines of Cold in July (2014) meets any of the action packed Liam Neeson films like: Taken trilogy, Non-Stop (2014), or Unknown (2011). Together with A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) this must be my favorite film with Neeson to this day. I did like him in Unknown (2011), the original Taken (2008), The Grey (2011), and in the Five Minutes of Heaven (2009), but it is with the character of Jimmy Conlon at the age of 63 that Neeson made the biggest impression on me so far. In the film, Neeson portrays an over-the-hill ex-trigger man for an Irish-American mobster gone legit played by Ed Harris (something similar Harris played in the film History of Violence in 2005). Conlon is a washed-up alcoholic with no real friends and money, who keeps hanging around Shawn McGuire (Harris) and his family, because his own son does not want to know him. But when certain unforeseen circumstances occur, and Conlon's son becomes unintentionally...

Damon...need I say more?
When I first started watching THE VAMPIRE DIARIES way back in season 1 I didn't think it'd be a show that I looked forward to each week. Some of the dialogue was cliche, the characters were so angsty and frankly some of them were pretty annoying. But Damon (Ian Somerholder) and the snarky humor he carried around with him kept me coming back for more and after about 6 episodes I was hopelessly hooked.

This season is no different. If you can overlook some of the angst and the fact that certain characters should just die already, the plot twists and Damon's great lines will have you hanging on to every episode.

Absolutely Awsome!
Great acting as usual. Good story line and entertaining. I hope the writers can keep this 'fresh' without becoming 'stupid' and 'unbelievable'.

WOW! Great Show
I love this show. the Story line is entertaining and the characters well developed. It,s always fun to see where their headed next!.

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Review :
Epic conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy
Having been a huge fan of Chris Nolan's previous two Batman films, couldn't wait to watch this when it was released. And The Dark Knight Rises didn't disappoint. The conclusion to the trilogy is fitting for the franchise, for Batman, and for Bruce Wayne (though I have read rumors that Nolan might come back for another film in the series or maybe a Batman/Superman film - hope some of this is true!).

The film starts with a frail Bruce Wayne having pretty much retired and living a private life eight years after he eliminated the Joker. The peaceful Gotham City where police officers feel they will soon be "chasing overdue library books" is rocked by a series of events orchestrated by the ferocious and calculating villain, Bane.

The pace of this film is slightly slower (and heavier) compared to the previous two films, partly because there are a lot more characters in this film, and Nolan being the master storyteller that he is, gives each character enough time in the...
Couldnt wait to add this to my collection!!
I have been a huge Batman fan since I was a kid. From the comics, to the movies, to the cartoons and the games, but I absolutely loved this series the most. This series really hit the darker side of Batman and gave it a little more of a realistic touch. Batman The Dark Knight Rises, in my opinion, made Bane one of the scariest, most intense villains in any super hero movie I've seen in 2012. I think this movie did a great job ending this specific series, and even still it left me wanting more, but I was very satisfied with the ending. It was intense, fun, and even amusing at times. All around I think its a great movie, a great series and for me it was a definite buy! Hope everyone else can enjoy this movie/series as much as I did.

Very good but the first two are both better.
4 Stars. This was pretty damn good but it definitely had its problems. Bane's voice was almost impossible to make out most of the time. The addition of Catwoman was okay but nothing really extraordinary. There was very little screen time for Bale which he probably wasn't happy about so this really came off more like 'Bane and Robin' rather than 'Batman and Robin'. The biggest problem though is the first act.

It really drags and they could have lost about 10 or 15 minutes to tighten up the pace. Once the second act kicks in though, that's when the whole story becomes really engaging. It's awesome how Bane unintentionally 'recreates' Batman without knowing it. There is definitely some repetition of ideas from the first two which is probably why this is the last one but overall it is probably the darkest of the three. This is definitely better than the latest Spiderman.

The criticism about this third chapter not fitting in with the whole series could not be further...

Stephen King's It! (DVD)Is there anything scarier than clowns? Of course not. And who knows scary better than Stephen King? You see where we're going. It puts a malevolent clown (given demented life by a powdered, red-nosed Tim Curry) front and center, as King's fat novel gets the TV-movie treatment. Even at three hours plus, the action is condensed, but an engaging Stand by Me vibe prevails for much of the running time. The seven main characters, as adolescents, conquered a force of pure evil in their Maine hometown. Now, the cackling Pennywise is back, and they must come home to fight him--or, should we say, It--again. Admitting the TV-movie trappings and sometimes hysterical performances, this is a genuinely gripping thriller. As so often with King, the basic idea (the bond formed during a childhood trauma) is clean and powerful, a lifeline anchored in reality that leads us to the supernatural. --Robert Horton

Review :
Oh yes, they Float, Georgie, they Float
This movie rules! I'm a huge fan of the book, and I can say that the movie really does it justice. The whole story involves a group of kids, all "losers", drawn together by a supernatural force to confront an ancient evil that takes the form of a malignant clown.
Tim Curry was, I think, born to play Pennywise the Clown. Sadistic, waddling freak with his doughy, grinning white face, red wet lips stetched as wide as his ears. In his clown form, he is able to charm the younger kinds, but he becomes the fears of the older ones, taking them down into his sewer dungeon to feed on them. The kids that finally beat the monster, Big Bill and Haystack and Bev and the rest of the Loser's Club, manage to force It back into It's lair, not dead, but nearly mortally wounded....
Driven by a feeding cycle, It rises again decades later, and the Loser's Club, now forgotten in adulthood, is drawn back together to face the monster one final time. This was originally made-for-television,...
Quite good, but it fails to convey the essence of the novel
Stephen King's It is my favorite novel of all time, and even though this miniseries adaptation of the book is done about as well as it could possibly be done, I can only give it four stars. There are several reasons for this, the two most important being time and money. The novel is an immense work, and no adaptation of three hours can even hope to do it true justice; even ten hours would not suffice for getting at the essence of the story, that essence being not horror at all but childhood. The movie only allows the viewer to take in everything from outside, whereas the painstaking detail, insight, and atmosphere of King's novel make the reader an active participant in events. Thus, a lot of things presented in the movie do not come off overwhelmingly convincingly, and there are more than a few noticeably sudden and seemingly unexplainable transitions even within single scenes alone. The money issue is most evident at the end, as the special effects for the big finale were not...
Through the Eyes of Children - Great Movie!
This movie I believe was one of the first mini series I have seen by Stephen King. I watched from start to finish I was so interested in the kids in this film. Two who are played by popular actor's today Seth Green (Young Richie Tozer), and Jonathan Brandis (Young Bill Denbrough). The children band together and call themselves "The Looser's Club" they face being different from their classmates and they also face their parents. But what they must ultmiately face is the monster who kills children called "Pennywise the Clown." Together and only together as a team can they defeat the monster.
In the first half of the film we learn of the Clown (Played by the great Tim Curry) and the history with the town of Derry, Maine. We see the kids meeting for the first time and the fun they all have. But the serious times comes when they band together to stand up for themselves against a few of the classmates namly Henry Bowers who likes to torment the other kids in the school. They then come...

Sherlock: Season Two (BBC/DVD)

Nominated for 4 primetime Emmys, Sherlock is back with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson in three new stories. In A Scandal in Belgravia, Sherlock gets embroiled in the complex plans of the dangerous and desirable Irene Adler, and finds himself employing every one of his remarkable skills to survive as the unlikely duo square off in a battle of wits…and perhaps emotions? The Hounds of Baskerville whisks the increasingly popular detective and Watson to the wilds of Dartmoor, and face to face with the supernatural lurking in the eerie landscape. Meanwhile, Moriarty is still out there in the shadows, and is determined to bring Sherlock down-at whatever the cost-in The Reichenbach Fall. With beguiling performances, witty scripts and some of the most intriguing characters ever created, it's no wonder that Sherlock has proven to be a worldwide success.

]]>There is nothing elementary (a Holmesian cliché that this exceedingly smart and savvy series wisely shuns) about Sherlock. This sophomore season exceeds the pleasures and promise of the Emmy-nominated first season with three feature-length mysteries that fully test Holmes's mettle and cunning, and shake his very high self-regard. The first and third episodes do full justice to two figures who loom large in the Holmes canon. The first is Irene Adler (Lara Pulver), a.k.a. "the Woman," in "A Scandal in Belgravia," a ripping and naughty yarn involving a high-class dominatrix and some scandalous royal photos. The second, of course, is Moriarty (an Emmy-worthy Andrew Scott) in "The Reichenbach Fall," who hatches a mad scheme to bring about Holmes's ruination. The middle mystery is perhaps Holmes's best-known, "The Hounds of Baskerville," a psychological thriller that lacks the other two's worthy central adversaries, although Holmes's rare moment of bafflement sets the stage for the seemingly game-changing finale that has Dark Knight echoes. Sherlock's high concept--transplanting Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's master consulting detective to 21st-century London--is brilliantly realized, but at the heart of this series' success is the casting and chemistry between Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson, who chronicles their adventures in--what else--a blog. While some may make innuendo about the nature of their relationship, it is their friendship that unfolds by degrees that holds the most fascination. "I don't have friends," Holmes confesses to Watson in one of his rare quiet and less prickly moments. "I have one." Sherlock benefits from repeat viewings, not so much to decipher clues, but to savor the brilliant wordplay. Series three cannot arrive fast enough. --Donald Liebenson

Review :
"We are in Buckingham Palace, the very heart of the British nation. Sherlock Holmes, put your trousers on!"
Such was the ego-stroking the cast & creators received for their first series of SHERLOCK, they couldn't help but gain huge confidence as they try to top themselves in Series 2. Steven Moffat always did have roaring self-esteem, and so he and co-creator Mark Gattis shrugged and decided to take on the three most iconic touchstones in the Sherlock Holmes canon. Series 2 is a (mostly) brilliant reworking of, in Moffat's own words, "the Hound, the Woman, and the Professor."

It was a ba11sy move to reimagine Sherlock Holmes in 21st Century England. That it worked tremendously is due to smart writing and the amazing chemistry between the two leads, Cumberbatch and Freeman. The writers inserted clever touches such as the onscreen texts which reveal Holmes' instantaneous deductions and his ready application of contemporary tools (cell phones, the Internet, etc.) to aid his investigations. In this universe, Holmes attains his clients primarily thru Watson's popular online blog in...
An invitation...
15 minutes.
That's all I need to convince you to watch this series.
I guarantee it.
Start from the beginning, Season 1. Fifteen minutes. If you want to turn it off after that, be my guest.
The writing, the acting, the CINEMATOGRAPHY, the costumes, the portrayal, the twists, the turns, the wit, the suspense: all create a fresh, new, brilliant invention of Sherlock Holmes in the 21 century...it will capture you and never let you go.
So go...watch this. You will not be disappointed.

From Good to Great
As I watched the first season of "Sherlock," my fondness for this show increased. From the opening moments in "A Study in Pink" to the Moriarty's stunning entrance in "The Great Game," I knew I was witnessing the rebirth of an icon. Yes, Mr. Downing Jr.'s portrayal in Hollywood's version is admirable and entertaining, but to find the true spirit of Sherlock Holmes one need look no further than this series. However, to say that it was ever more than "darn good television" would have been pushing it. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman put on a fantastic show, and ever so often the writing and acting gave small glimmers of greatness, but I was never tempted to say that the show had achieved lasting greatness (though to successfully transpose Holmes into the modern age was a feat in and of itself).

However, with "The Reichenbach Fall," I'm pleased to say that Sherlock has left far behind casual crime drama (good drama though it was) and has now entered the realm of true,...

Review :
"Gotham" isn't actually a Batman origin story - instead we garner how the city gained its infamy as a crime capital
.
"Gotham" isn't actually a Batman origin story it's an origin of the city itself.

We see whole plethora of younger villains in the making, as in the opening sequence where we see the ever nimble cat women/girl. There is a glimpse of a proto-Riddler, Edward Nygma to Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney. Fish Mooney is great character, where Pinkett Smith really pulls it off. She's just the right balance between nuts and `compos mentis'. These are the resultant characters/villains, which will make Gotham city the notorious city, of crime capers and villainy in the near future.

The show itself is framed through lens the of a police drama. The creator and executive producer is one Bruno Heller from "The Mentalist". He treats the comic book aspects as support for the core story. The comic book features as a support for the heart of the ensuing narrative, as opposed to the other way around. "Gotham" is actually built quite well, with passionately lit sets swaggering...
A Prequel of a Different Nature
This isn't your typical Batman show. This focuses on Jim Gordon, who eventually becomes the commissioner of Gotham's Police force later on.

Gotham starts as Gordon is beginning his career as a Detective. It introduces characters who become some of Batman's greatest enemies, like Catwoman, Riddler and the Penguin. Catwoman is shown here as a teenage girl. Riddler begins here as the CSI for Gotham PD, and Penguin is a rising player in the Mob. (An subtle hint in Episode 11 and commercials after Episode 15 hint at the Joker's arrival as well). Gotham does have Bruce Wayne, but as a boy who starts his quest for justice. There are also characters who make appearances that are combinations of other villains. There is also the character of Barbara Keen, Gordon's "girlfriend" who is not to be confused with Gordon's (adopted) daughter Barbara (who later becomes Batgirl and Oracle).

You have to give Gotham a little time. The prequel starts slow, but the show begins...
Movie production values at TV prices - Very well done all around - Warner Bros. Take Note.
Even the secondary characters are engaging in this series of stories penned by the writer of The Mentalist.
This is Gotham (circa 2000-2005?) before the Batman begins to bring order to that city (presumably in 2014-15).
A number of the characters from the comic are introduced in their early years with personalities, strengths and flaws that foreshadow what they will become in DC comics canon. The delivery is subtle, believable and the plots and characters are very nicely done.

Little Poison Ivy has an abusive father and raises her few pathetic plants in a small apartment in a concrete jungle.

The casting is flawless, as are the direction and acting. The characters (even the stranger villains) are entirely believable (Oswald Cobblepot particularly so). The writing makes even the "toss-away" characters three dimensional.

A street urchin asks a favor of a burnt out cop in an office full of crooked cops - he denies the request (out of habbit) and...

Review :
It had the potential to be awesome but the writers killed it.
ok I admit it I am a batman fan. Big time, I have enough batman paraphernalia to start my own store. As such I don't miss any batman or justice league movie that comes out. But I have to say I didn't like the first "son of batman" because well...how do I put this...there is no damn way. That is how I describe the plot of that movie and this one. Because for real; batman THE flipping batman and the first robin, the best version of robin BOTH getting their butts handed to them by a 80lbs brat? I don't care if he was trained by assassins it is impossible for a ten year old to inflict that type of damage on a adult barehanded that goes double for batman and dick they are both martial arts masters the Damien robin is just too unbelievable to take seriously. Not to mention his un-ending one liners make my skin crawl. One of the reasons I love DC movies is because there is always a type of believability to them and the characters are well thought out, defined and written. But these...
This movie is definitely two steps up from that horrible Son Of Batman fiasco
This movie is definitely two steps up from that horrible Son Of Batman fiasco. I won't get too much into detail (I hate reviews that give away the entire plot), but if you enjoyed Under The Red Hood you'll absolutely love this film as well. The action, voice acting, and story were all on point. I look forward to how Damian Wayne will

is amazing, gripping and downright fun
Potential spoilers, watch out!

The successor to Son of Batman, Batman Vs. Robin, in a few short words, is amazing, gripping and downright fun. It's the story of a secret society (Court of Owls) that tries to take control of Gotham by manipulating young Damian (Robin) against his father. Damian is caught between two opposing forces: His father's vision of him and that of Ra's Al Ghul, who still influences him and for which the mysterious Talon figure tries to take advantage of this fact over him.

The art, music and voices in this movie are nothing less than outstanding. The movie doesn't shy away at all from having gruesome, even terrifying scenes and quickly can switch over to more exotic and beautiful settings while maintaining a Gotham-like atmosphere: Fear, depression, corruption, darkness and a slimmer of hope all at the same time.

For the casual and hardcore alike, this is a definite must-see for all Batman fans who enjoy quality storytelling with...

Suicide Squad: Assault on Arkham
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Mt one complaint, although I understand the reasoning, is that this is miss-titled. Before you watch it, think of this as a Suicide Squad movie, Batman is not in this too much, and acts as more of a background character, and a plot device. He basically is a convenient way to move things forward. Once again, I'm okay with that. It was great seeing characters that I am less familiar with and allowing them to take a front seat to the action. The humor is spot-on, and there were a number of times I laughed out loud. The voice acting is great, and it was fantastic to have Mr. Conroy back in the cowl, also, Troy Baker is just phenomenal. There were a couple of moments where I wasn't actually sure if it was Baker or Mark Hamill. While the movie itself should be titled Suicide Squad: Assault on Arkham (which is a much cooler sounding title) that doesn't stop it from being great, easily a step up from Son of Batman and possibly even JLA: War, although we'll see...

Bluray quality is excellent.
This is a review for the Bluray disk. For anyone who loved any of these movies, the quality of the transfer is almost perfect. You have an occasional scene that is not that great but even the original film look crappy at that same point. So worth it. I mly really wanted Goonies and Gremlins 1, think of part 2 as a bonus. My son liked 2 better so glad I got this 3 movie set.

Didn't have to wait long
Nice to re-live your childhood with these flicks and to see the clean-up on blu ray.

Ended watching all 3 in one day!

Movies simply look better on Blu-ray
All 3 discs looked great in high-definition. The aspect ratio of The Goonies is with the top and bottom black bars. The aspect ratio of both Gremlin movies fills the entire widescreen without the black bars.

Review :

Updated: August 18, 2014: I purchased the 2–disc “Special Edition” DVD release and the enclosed insert offers the following product description:
----------

“GET READY TO ROOT FOR THE BAD GUYS”

“Welcome to Gotham City’s heart of darkness. At the center of the shadows rises Arkham Asylum, a festering repository of the vile, the dangerous and the delirious, with an ever–growing population courtesy of the Dark Knight. But when Batman foils the Riddler’s latest caper and a crucial piece of evidence needs to be secretly recovered from Arkham, the solution comes from an unexpected source: a covert government strike team assembled from Gotham City’s underworld.”

“The assassin Deadshot leads the Suicide Squad: Harley Quinn, Killer Frost, Captain Boomerang, King Shark and Black Spider, a roster of rogues who know Arkham Asylum and its residents all too well. Get ready for an...
"Yahtzee!"
I've been a fan of DC's animation since JL/JLU. most of their animated features have been excellent, and this one is no exception. this one is different in that it's based on the Arkham games, rather than being in-continuity with DC/WB's other features.

it's also based on Suicide Squad. that's a beyond-top-secret government program that takes a group of supervillains, implants bombs in them, and sends them on impossible missions as expendable agents.

THIS IS NOT A KID'S MOVIE. brutal violence, nudity, profanity, sex, and more violence. the protagonists (you can't call them "heroes") are unrepentant killers and thieves, motivated only by saving their own skins. the plot involves searching for Riddler's MacGuffin while avoiding Batman (who is searching for a different MacGuffin), and trying not to die.

it's filled with witty writing, subtle and effective character moments, tense infiltration scenes, and massive fights. voice acting is perfect,...

Rise of Aquaman
In 2011 DC Comics initiated the "New 52" reboot of all their titles including Aquaman, a superhero that previously seemed like a fish out water (pun intended), and anyone who read that first issue had to pick their jaw up off the floor (I remember my fav comic store being constantly sold out) seeing this reinvigorated character leaping through the city streets (Incredible Hulk style) and basically looking and being awesome. A prevalent theme for said comic has been the struggle for Atlantis which is also the driving force behind 2015's "Throne of Atlantis".

This film is a sequel to "Justice League: War" however the two couldn't be further apart, a fact best demonstrated by the "rebooted" following themes: Shazaam is awesome again and his nose is no longer nestled between Cyborgs cheeks (not so much anyway), Lantern is voiced by Nathan Fillion (which all alone improves the overall quality of the character and the film in general), Superman and Wonderwoman actually engage in...
*****Spoiler Alert**** Just Ok
*****Some Spoilers in the Review*****

The movie was ok though I think Justice League: War was better. It seems that they are forgoing any type of story development in favor of action and fighting scenes. At the first the Atlantians are strong and skilled fighters that can damage a 1/4 ton Cyborg then they're just "ordinary" bad guys that die so easily from a stern look by Batman. The Atlantian army is part of the coup, but then at the end they are shocked that a coupe happened...just examples of the inconsistencies that occur numerous time throughout the film.

I didn't like how they compensated for how weak the Atlantian army was against the JL by making the Trident Spear all powerful. Oceanmaster beats up the entire League, yet is beaten Aquaman who had just gotten his butt kicked by Manta Ray. I will always support the DCAU original movies and look forward to their release, but I feel the New 52 based movies are not as well done as say Batman: Mask...
Waterlogged
If they want to make a new Justice League cartoon show, they should just make it -- because "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis" feels like it was written as a multi-episode arc.

And yet, this sequel to "Justice League: War" is strangely flat. Supposedly it introduces the character of Aquaman, king of Atlantis, while also exploring the growing pains of the Justice League. Yet both are handled with an oddly passionless approach, with all the characters -- except Cyborg -- sliding into their new positions with little actual conflict or trouble.

The Justice League is having trouble coming together as a group -- Batman is busy doing his solo thing, Superman and Wonder Woman spend all their time macking on each other, and Cyborg is having trouble adjusting to his new body. But when a submarine is destroyed by an Atlantean army, they have to get together and investigate.

Meanwhile, lighthouse-owner Arthur Curry is mourning the death of his dad when he's...

Review :
Very over-the-top, but still fun.
Not as cautious or preachy as the "Super-Friends," but also not nearly as edgey or grim as Warner/DC's new wave of "PG-13" fare either, finding its place ALMOST nestled comfortably inside a veritable "Goldilocks Zone." Thus parents should have little problem showing this one to the kidlets, but it's also clever and engaging enough to hold the attention of more mature audiences as well -- a little of something for everyone.

Were it not for the character designs (read: "ages"), the story feels very much as though it might be taking place about a decade or so prior to the world & events of "Batman Beyond."

Lovers of the Batman animated series may be please by the voicing of the character, but then might go on to express some disappointment after learning that the voices of The Batman, The Joker, et al, are not being supplied by fan-faves Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, etc., but are rather other voice actors doing their...
The Batman Super Friends!
Just finished watching, along with Jeff H., Batman Unlimited - Monster Mayhem released by Warner Brothers.
"Batman Unlimited - Monster Mayhem" can be best summed up by Jeff H.'s wry observation at the end of the movie - "This was the most cartoonish of all the animated DC movies we've watched to date," he said. And Jeff H. is right.
Gotham City is a bright and shiny place in Batman Unlimited - Monster Mayhem - it's not a dark and gloomy city reeking of crime.
Spoilers Ahead!
Even Arkham Asylum, from which Solomon Grundy and Silver Banshee escape from has a wholesome appeal to it that makes it look like a weekend getaway bed and breakfast. The gruesome twosome manage to escape on Halloween night and end up going on a joyride after stealing a car, which gets the attention of Batman, Nightwing, and Red Robin.
After giving the Terrific Trio the brush off, the two meet up with a very annoyed Scarecrow, who at first appears to be the criminal...
Much better than the first one
TLDR: Worth a rent, better than the first one, still not up to DCAU standards, not as silly/over the top as the first one, has a few moments of real character depth.

Now for the details for those who don't mind the read:

While this is definitely more of a children's film than much of what DC is doing these days, it's a bit closer to the DCAU style of storytelling in that there are at least some aspects that have the potential to keep a more mature audience interested.

With regards to the plot, it's still pretty basic not unlike the first Batman Unlimited film, though this one definitely feels more mature and with better quality writing and action (at least for the most part, though there are a few facepalm moments).

As for the show, while it does feature the likes of Nightwing, Red Robin, Green Arrow and Cyborg, it still feels like a very small world consisting primarily of a futuristic Gotham that looks like a less dark version of the...
